And I don't recall seeing anything about it being harder to connect things that are highly invested. if anyting it seem that could be easier.

Connection is Investiture too, and Investiture resists Investiture. Furthermore, we see Nightblood cutting & destroying Connections in RoW against Ishar when he tried to steal Dalinar's Connections to the Stormfather and Odium. Bondsmiths unchained are apparently almost freeform Hemalurgists but Connection isn't everything to the Invested Arts, but it's enough to majorly mess with them. It'll be difficult to acquire all magic systems via this, but simply stealing Connection between the magic user and the Shard whose Investiture powers their magic should be enough.
