Dwdaniels Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Just curious if you guys think Aviar with similar abilities to Ask would screw with Odium's ability to predict/manipulate those bonded to them? Or maybe Aviar in general hide you from the shards?

Or maybe Aviar in general hide you from the shards? Sak's futuresight abilities could interfere with other forms of futuresight. It was basically like Allomantic electrum focusing on very high possibility of death in the immediate future, which I think is too narrow to cause too many problems with anyone else's use of Fortune but his abilities seemed to have gotten powered up after the Patji-wide Aviar alert incident. [Sixth of the Dusk sequel moderate spoilers] Spoiler the Sak we see in this extract could definitely interfere with Fortune imo The common Aviar ability to shield minds, which is what I'm assuming you meant by "general Aviar", we don't really know... They are the Aviar which are the easiest to get, and Mraize seems to have an Aviar, that might help with shielding him from Shards? That's quite a few assumptions though. And Shards are very powerful. Normal Copperclouds do not work against Shards, I'm assuming Aviar are about the same level, so they probably don't work either. From Shards probably no, but there are other beings with magical detection. Seekers, detection fabrials on Roshar and Sel, Nalthian Lifesense, Odiums seeking Voidspren... Is plenty things what can detect you, and some of them are can be hostile. As member of cosmere-wide trade (criminal?) organisation he of course doesnt want to be detected by everybody. Anyone near Renarin was blacked out in Odium's "diagram" and his abilities seem pretty focused and specific. Vin was able to trick Atium just by referencing Zane's reactions to Atium trails. Knowing all of your own possible deaths would probably be really handy in a fight against an atium misting, or in dealing with a shard that wanted you dead. It just might be utterly useless for any reason other than survival?

Renarin predicted Jasnah becoming aware of his spren's Corruption and coming to kill him, he saw Odium attempting to turn Dalinar into his Champion. Sak showed Dusk his (possible) corpses along his path, predicting immediate danger. Sak was much more limited than Renarin. I don't doubt that someone could leverage this ability against someone with stronger Fortune abilities, like Vin using electrum against Atium but of the two, Sak and Renarin, who would have been a better foil against someone with Fortune? 1

Fair points. And yeah, Renarin is by far the more powerful of any fortune abilities we've seen outside of Shardic ones (that I'm aware of.)
