SylShard Posted December 17, 2020 Author Posted December 17, 2020 If I have to mention one, it would be ‘Words of Radiance’. What’s yours? Is Ookla a character from somewhere?
Aeternum Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Welcome to the Shard! Ookla Season: Ookla-the-Mok is the username Peter Ahlstrom (Brandon’s assistant) used on the Timewaster’s Guide forum, where Brandon originally talked about his earliest books. We celebrate Ookla season by changing our usernames to some variation on the word Ookla, usually in the pattern ‘Ookla the _’, in the month or so between Peter and Brandon’s birthdays (November 26th and December 19th - which is also known as Koloss Head Munching Day). KHMD is explained by Brandon as: "The short is this: A fan asked if there were any holidays in the Mistborn world. I jokingly said Koloss Head-Munching Day. Fans ran with it." (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/198/#e4247) On that day, we get a new State of the Sanderson, which is Brandon's yearly blog post where he recaps the work he did during the year, the events he visited (often with photos of cosplayers), and then runs through all his projects and gives updates on them. 1
SylShard Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 Thank you for responding. That’s interesting!
Honorless he/him Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Welcome to the Shard, @SylShard! Yeah, a lot of us, including me, are on Discord. How did you discover Sanderson?
SylShard Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 Well, I love fantasy and was looking for a good series to start with. Discovered Sanderson on Reddit and started with SA. Within 3 months, I ended up reading all his cosmere books except white sand. Not a fan of graphic novels. How about you? Also, Is there like a summary of white sand I can read?
Aon Tia she/her Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 (edited) Hi ! Welcome to the shard! So you finished all his cosmere books in 3 months!! It is difficult to put them down, is it not !!? There is a prose version of white sand but there are some small changes in it as compared to graphic novels. you can get White Sand (prose) by subscribing to Brandon's newsletter Edited December 19, 2020 by Aon Tia
SylShard Posted December 19, 2020 Author Posted December 19, 2020 Yes, I pretty much slacked on everything else and just kept reading. And, thank you! I just remembered that I got a link for white sand when I subscribed to Brandon’s newsletter. I had completely forgotten about that. Thanks a lot!
Honorless he/him Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 I had Mistborn recommended to me, so I started off with the Final Empire. I saw absolutely none of the twists coming, lol. Hmm.. Have you read the Arcanum Unbounded? A lot of people missed that one and so missed that there are multiple short stories set in the Cosmere like Emperor's Soul, Sixth of the Dusk, Secret History, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, etc...
SylShard Posted December 19, 2020 Author Posted December 19, 2020 Yes, read those too. Loved the emperor’s soul. Such a well written short story!

Emperor’s soul is my favourite short story too. I also loved secret history too, I had no idea so much was happening behind the scenes!
Hoid the Former Drifter he/him Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 @SylShard, welcome! Who's your favorite character and which character do you hate the most? What order of radiant are you/ do you want to be? If you could choose one allomantic power, what would you choose? What about one feruchemical power? if you were a twinborn, what would you want to be? Of all the powers in the cosmere, which one do you most want to have? which of sando's books do you like the most? This includes not cosmere books like reckoners, legion, rithmatist How many more questions can i ask before you stop reading this?
SylShard Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 Assuming I can name only one for all your questions, fav character - Kaladin, don’t like - Navani, hate - Lirin Want to be a wind runner, but the quiz placed will shaper first and wind runner 2nd for me. One allomantic Power if I wanna get into a fight with someone with allomantic powers - chromium, otherwise it would be steel. feruchemical power - Duralumin (no idea how it would work though) I am assuming it would give me connection off world too so I can communicate in any language and access investiture off world if needed. Twinborn - so many permutations and combinations to think about. I am gonna have to get back to you on that. cosmere powers - I was discussing the possibility of super radiant in discord few days back. A person bonding more than one spren (WOB says it’s possible as long as oaths can be kept). So that’s what I would wanna be. Do not judge my greed. I haven’t read non cosmere books yet. So, words of radiance. P.S. I could totally change my answers based on which world I am focused on. How about you? It’s only fair you answer these questions too. Very insightful questions, btw! 1
