"So you," a man in the corner said, sipping from a mug of frothy ale, "haven't actually been on one before?"

Audra turned to look at the speaker. "Not for lack of trying. But all the campaigns I've approached in the past are 'professionals only.'" She rolled her eyes. "As if anyone could be a professional adventurer. Professional means you'd be prepared for everything. But if you're prepared for everything on an adventure, it can't really be an adventure anymore, can it?"

"On paper, maybe. In theory a professional is someone that can handle everything," the man corrected. "Or close to everything, anyways. In reality--in practice--a professional is someone who gets out alive in the end despite it all."

"Then maybe I am a professional. They wouldn't know unless I'd already been on a quest, and I can't go on a quest unless I'm pro." She stuck out her tongue at no one in particular with annoyance. "What about you? Have you been on a quest before?"

"The Artifacts, what do you think?" Audra snapped. "Sorry. I'm a bit on edge. And thirsting for adventure." She grinned. "I've heard most adventurers die on the quest."

"Oh excellent, you're so much more upfront than that cocky merfolk back there. Say, where did they go...? No matter. I'll be coming with you, then?"

Audra was taken aback. "I don't even know you."

"Several. None are for the faint of heart of light of mind." He leaned forwards. "An attitude of prospect is always found in the ones who haven't seen reality yet."

"An attitude of what is found in who?" I'm beginning to think this guy might not be quite sane.

"What I'm saying, miss chipper, is that we veterans have a bit of a soft spot for cutesy hopefuls like yourself," Calcifer explained. "Means we get a right smack to the face when you're careless, trip and fall into a tyworm's gaping cave mouth, and vanish from this plane of existence forever. Really puts your day into perspective when the kid you like kicks the bucket on day one: sets the mood of what an adventure really is."

"Sounds exciting." Audra grinned. "Plus, falling probably won't be the cause of my demise." She nodded to the massive wings on her back. "Y'know, flying and all."

"Well someone has to stop a nice young lady like you from horribly dying. Ha!"

"Oh, I like this one. Seemingly experienced, but still arrogant as a fly wandering into a spider's web! Ha! Yes, you'll do well for our little adventuring party."

Calcifer turned his attention to the one speaking to him. "And how many adventures have you been on?"

"Oh, The word 'adventure' is so arbitrary, don't you think? I mean, every moment is its own little adventure, with its own destination and journey, friends and enemies."

Well, a couple of insane people is more of a team than I had before... Audra smiled. "Should we get recruiting more people, then?"

"Oh, one or two. I had to get some Merfolk scales this one time to flood an annoying noble's carriage, and then there was this other time where the Artifacts were disturbed and I had to team up with a hotshot lady with wings and this arrogant and quite nosy adventurer, and maybe some other people."

She pauses for a moment, seeming to wait for a response, before suddenly speaking again.

"Oh, wait!"

Calcifer chuckled. “I like your attitude. My name is Calcifer. You?”

"Barabantha. So, what useful skills do you have, hmmm?"

Audra looked between the two insane but still increasingly impressive people. "When do we leave? Do we need more people? Where do we start?" She hesitated. "I guess...what I'm asking is...what's the plan?"

Uh, do you have a plan for how were going to find this or are we going more freeform?

"Well, first of all, I'm going to need one of your feathers."
