Audra looked at her in surprise. "Um...why?"

"Well, honey, we need to find the Artifacts, but as no one knows where they are, that's not going to be easy. Fortunately for us, however, I have THIS."

She sets down her cauldron with a loud thump- and it's filled to the brim with a thick brown mud. "Took me a century and a half to collect all of this. It's mud so perfectly attuned to it's element that it's extremely magically charged- but, add just a little of another element, and reacts violently, making all sorts of fun effects. So, this, plus a tiny bit of the guiding energy of Air, and it'll point us straight towards the Artifact of Mud. After we fix that one, I have no idea how we'll find the other ones, but we'll figure that out when we get there, eh?"

Audra looked suspiciously at the cauldron. "Uhhh... First of all, I don't know you so I dunno if I can trust you. For all I know you could use it to steal my identity. Second of all...uh...I actually don't have a second of all."

"Just give her your feather. If she happens to attempt to steal your soul, she'll be dead before she can finish her first incantation."

"Thing is, I dunno if I can trust you, either. How do I know you're not working with her to do some evil voodoo mud magic?"

Audra was only somewhat offended. "Well, it might be for something else!"

Slight changes to the character I made some time back.

Spoiler

Name: Thetan 'Vazum

Appearance: As a descendant of the Aithnese (I'm just guessing here, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) he has blood red skin, with black hair and deep yellow eyes. He wears clothes that reflect his deep religious affiliation, effectively serving as a uniform.

Equipment: Tools to perform religious ceremonies, religious symbols, a large dagger for self-defense.

Backstory: Adopted by the local priests after an event that is vague in Thetan's mind, he has been raised and serves as one of the most devoted disciples of his religion, despite his oftentimes laidback demeanor. He was tasked by priests that he trust to join this group of adventurers in the quest to retrieve the artifacts in question; he views this as a sacred duty.

Personality: Stalwart in his religious views and ways. Most view him as zealous when it comes to executing his god's will, but despite his devotion, he is one of the more lenient and adaptable of the priests. He comes off as laid back when in common conversation, but his fiery devotion has surprised even the most pious priest in his order when he needs to use it. He looks for the hand of divine work wherever he goes.

First time I've written up one of these things to use them, so let's see if I can stick to it.

A man of Aithnese descent and wearing traditional robes tried to quietly close the door to the tavern behind him so as to not disturb anyone before trying to snake his way through the room so as to not bother anyone by touching them. Whenever he met someone's eyes, he flashed a smile and politely excused himself before continuing towards the bar, sighing with relief when he made it. He simply sat and breathed in and out rhythmically for a few moments, trying to gather himself.

"Oh, no, voodoo's completely different from what I do. It's far closer to water than mud, being so life-related. Anyways, it seem like you're going to have to take a risk, eh?"

Audra glanced around nervously. It's not like I'm getting any other offers... Giving in, she grimaced as she plucked one of her less singed feathers, handing it to the weird mud lady.

He turned to greet the group, but paused at the sight of the voodoo mud. "Uh," he cleared his throat and smiled, "the three Blazes favor you. I know this is sudden, but do you think that you can help me?"

"I am Thetan, Dasukar of the Purified Flame. All I need is advice, and I can repay with some of my own if you want." He turned on the barstool, propping one foot on his knee while he leaned into the counter casually.

"My quest is no secret," he straightened himself as he stood up, "I have been tasked by the Guiding Council to take up the labor of retrieving the Artifacts. I have been guided here, but I don't know where my path will lead from here. Perhaps you can point me in the right direction?"

"Well, as you probably know, no one knows where the Artifacts are. Also, we're a group who at some point are going to go look for the Artifacts ourselves, so why would we help you?" Audra didn't like or trust religious people. Too many of them had tried to convert her in the past.

"Oh, how wonderful! Tell me, what can you contribute to our little team here, eh?"

"Oh, he's probably just trying to restore them like we are, unless he's part of some sort of apocalypse cult, ha!"

"Apocalypse cult?" Thetan asked, looking gravely concerned. "Don't tell me those actually exist. only idiots would sign up to cause the end of the world, right?"

"You would be surprised. Anyways, we would be happy to have you along. The more the merrier! Haha!"

Audra was...wary of allowing a religious man into their group, to say the least, but she nodded and forced out an "It's fine with me."

Thetan smiled, "the Pure Flame never leaves astray. How may I help?"

"That's what I'm wondering as well! But for now, I'm using this," she says, waggling the feather, "to find the first Artifact." She grabs one of the empty shot glasses setting it in front of her and scooping a small amount of her cauldron mud out from the pit using her fingers and plops it into the glass. She then takes the feather and dips it in, a quiet pop ringing out as it dissolves and disappears.

The mud then begins to slide over the bottom of the glass, clinging to the side and assumedly pointing towards the Artifact.

"Well...that's...erm...something." Audra looked only a little concerned.

"Uh," Thetan raised an eyebrow at the makeshift device. "Please excuse me, but I've never seen a device quite like that used on a quest."

"Ha! It's our only lead to finding an artifact at the moment, so unless you want to search every square inch of the planet, you are going to have to trust it!"
