Soby Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 While awaiting the 4th installment of SLA, I’ve read a couple more Brandon Sanderson series. I’m now on the Skyward series. I’m wondering if anyone can answer why Spensa hatches the plan to pose as Alanik to try get hyperdrives when she lightlanced Alanik’s ship and had it in her possession? Alanik’s ship had a hyperdrive correct? So why the need to pose as Alanik to try get a hyperdrive from the superiority when she already had one in front of her? 1

As for your question, if I remember correctly, Alanik was using her cytonic powers to teleport, not her own hyperdrive. They also hoped to gather other information from the Superiority covertly. 1

Only specially cleared members of the five races are permitted to handle hyperdrives and generally those are only used on capital ships. Starborn42 she/her Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Alanik was using her cytonic powers to hyperjump. She was not in possession of a hyperdrive. She instructed Spensa to go in her place as she knew she wouldn’t be able to. 1
