zandi she/her Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) This article in the NYTimes totally made me think of fabrials...maybe it is just me though... suddenly the way they work has diamond-like clarity for me http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/30/science/scientists-report-finding-reliable-way-to-teleport-data.html enjoy Edited May 31, 2014 by zandi 1
Kurkistan he/him Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I saw that. Just to clarify things for everyone, this does not enable FTL communication (which is the major thing Einstein had a problem with). Using this method, sending information from A to B requires that you measure A, then use good old fashioned communication to tell the guy standing by B how to manipulate it. So in order to get any actual information you still need light-speed-limited communication. EDIT: Sorry, that came across as a bit terse. The half-dozen "that fool Einstein!!" Lines in the article must have gotten to me a bit. :/ Edited May 31, 2014 by Kurkistan 3
zandi she/her Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) Rather than FTL communication I thought it could also apply to the link/connection between objects in the physical realm and the cognitive realm. How the state of things in one realm immediately effect their counterpart in another- i.e. Stick! That and how particles are trapped in the diamond made me think of spren trapped in gem hearts. It (for me) offered possible real world parallel explanations to how some systems might logically work on Roshar. It made things make more sense for me anyway - milage may vary!
