First Time Reading WOT Series Thoughts

Okay people. I'm gonna level with you here for a sec: I kind of abandoned wheel of time for quite a long while after reading crown of swords. Luckily though, the new WOT casting and stuff got me hyped up a bit more, and after a long and treacherous journey, I'm back on track and am reading Path of Daggers at the moment. Wooo! It's been kind of rough though, because I forgot a lot of what happened, though luckily, I have friends and family who have read it before to help me out.  Anyway, I figure since most people on this forum have already read the entirety of the series, I guess I'll just share some thoughts as I'm reading just for fun. And hey, maybe it will remind you of how you all felt reading it for the first time? Also, I'm seriously gonna need some refreshers on some things haha Anyway go ahead and share your thoughts too. But please please pleaaaase, I have already had SO many things spoiled for me already, like I don't even know why I thought looking up WOT fanart or reading random WOT posts was a good, spoiler free idea, or why I still even talk to my uncle after he unapologetically spoiled a major plot point for me, but at this point, I already know that *SPOILERS below*

Mat gets married accidentally to some Seanchan lady named Tuon, Faile gets captured, Rand somehow says "screw it, why not all of them" to a love square somehow, that somehow saidin gets... better (?), Moiraine and Thom get together, (I knew she wasn't dead), and...yeah so many things.  And half of these things haven't even happened yet. So now I'm just waiting till Faile gets kidnapped by the Shaido. Thank

But I don't know how it happens so please don't spoil that, okay? It's bad enough that I have those plot points spoiled. Blegh. Please and thank you. No more spoilers. Or at least put a spoiler tag on them. I wanna enjoy this series as much as I can people! woop woop, without further adieu, I will share my first thought on this book.

Cuz seriously, props to Robert Jordan for making me legitimately scared about Rand's mental state right now like wow it was so eerily well written and scary! DANG DUDE!

1) is not a spoiler. When mat went into the ter'angreal in the stone of tear and found the snakes answering three questions, he got some prophecies told. one of those was that he had to marry the daughter of the nine moons. Mat has been asking every girl is she is the daughter of the nine moons before courting her. but the title sounds definitely seanchan, so that he's going to accidentally marry a seanchan lady is no spoiler.

Furthermore, the moment Tuon appears in the story, she's introduced shortly enough as the daugfghter of the nine moons, so again, wasn't a spoiler.

2) this is actually a spoiler.

3) not exactly clear like 1), but I've been seeing the story going there ever since we discovered that aiel practice poligamy.

4) not exactly preordained, but it's one of the major things that are wrong with the world, so it could be surmised that something would have to be done about the taint sooner or later. plus, because of the whole concept of cyclic time, we can safely say that if saidin was clean in the past, it must be cleaned in the future too. though it may have happened in the 5th age, but really, would you really think the story would end with saidin still tainted?

5) i was actually expecting moiraine to be dead for real. barring that, there had been many hints that the two like each other. if you were expecting moiraine to be alive, then it's no spoiler that they end up together.

 

so, all in all, you haven't been spoilered all that much. most things could be surmised if one has a good eye for details

I mean yeah, I guess if you look at it that way it isn't all that spoilery. But like at the same time, it kind of sucks that I know for certain you know? Sure I could have guessed those things would happened, and a few I thought about, but it's still crappy that people told me it before it happened. Idk, it still sucks is all I'm trying to say. And the dude who spoiled

did it willfully, and didn't even feel remorse or say sorry when I expressed my outrage at him having spoiled it. Like, dude at least say sorry . I was like, only on book 2 at that point

That's just messed up. If he was gonna go and say something about that plot, he could have at least used a standard WoT codename: Plotline of Doom.

Anywaaaay, back to random plot thoughts!!!

The first Egwene chapter so far!!! Boy did I miss her! I'm really looking forward to her character arc with being the Amyrlin and stuff. *grins evilly* character development is a'dawning! Also that creepy dream she had about Mat in a ghostly light, makes me scared for him but also pissed because I haven't seen him yet, and if I'm remembering right, last time we saw Mat he had a freaking wall fall on top of him. Robert Jordan whyyyyyy?!?!

Oh yeah, Path of Daggers. I don't think I would have gotten through it half as fast if I wasn't on a youth camping trip, that I didn't want to be on, so I just brought my book and read, to the amusement of my friend who got me into WoT.

yes, you are remembering well, he had a wall fall on top of him. and robert jordan apparently wanted to keep the suspence, because it will be a while before we see mat again.
