High prince of geeks he/him Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 So far for humans with spren we have Kaladin: Syl bonded with him because it was the right thing to do Shallen: Pattern bonded with her to learn Dalinar: The stormfather boned with him because he had to Lyft: Her spren seams downright unhappy to bonded to him The shoemoaker: We never really got an idea why his spren was there Renarin" Don't know Most of these spren don't seem to want to save the world and from pattern and lyft's spren we learn that other sperm probably aren't going to make the nahel bond soon. The only spren so far that I can think of that will try to help might be the Honor spren, and from Syl's conversations with kaladin that she was very different then the rest of the Honor spren. My question is what do any of the spren fain from making the bond anymore besides a promis of death.
kaellok he/him Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) They gain sentience while in the Physical realm. Why would they care about that? Good question! Although, it seems that they have something to fear from an Odium victory. If Roshar gets evaporated, or turned to dust or whatever, like Dalinar saw in his vision from the Almighty, then the portion of Shadesmar where the spren live will suddenly become very, very different. Minor WoR spoilers Where there is land in the Physical, there is water in Shadesmar, and vice versa. What happens when there is just the empty void of space? I would guess something inhospitable that would kill the spren, but I don't really know. So, I think that survival would be something they would be interested in. The spren have directly fought in the Desolations before, and they seem to be gearing up for another one. Whether Wyndle is happy being Lift's bonded spren or not doesn't change the fact that his group made him go. They are taking some steps to help continue fighting against Odium, even if they would prefer to do it without the humans. Edited May 25, 2014 by kaellok
PorridgeBrick he/him Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Space in the Cognitive Realm expands and contracts depending on how much stuff is there. Empty space takes up almost no space, while a city or rainforest, with lots and lots of objects, takes up a ton of space in the Cognitive. So if Roshar was annihilated completely, most of the area it takes up in Shadesmar would be gone.
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Incidentally, the Spren can't not Help/serve the Humans. Humanity is Arrogant, and see itself at the Very top of the 'Awesome' Pyramid. Since Spren are the Personifications of Ideas made by Humanity, they would probably see the Humans as better than them. Plus you know, No Humanity, No Personificatio0n, No Spren.
Ketek Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) 'That other sperm.' Hehehehehehehehe Edit: Realized it's that and not from. Curse my sleep-deprived brain! Edited May 26, 2014 by Ketek 2

Ketek Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I wasn't going to comment but..... Nobody can resist a spern!
Tyfariel she/her Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Nobody can resist a spern! I dunno, I'm giggling over the typo where the Stormfather boned with Dalinar. ((I'm sorry, I know it's a mistake. XD)) To answer: Most of these spren don't seem to want to save the world and from pattern and lyft's spren we learn that other sperm probably aren't going to make the nahel bond soon. The only spren so far that I can think of that will try to help might be the Honor spren, and from Syl's conversations with kaladin that she was very different then the rest of the Honor spren. My question is what do any of the spren fain from making the bond anymore besides a promis of death. I'd say they gain a presence in the Physical Realm, as well as sentience for that presence in that Realm. Their promise of death seems, so far, to be only cause by the breaking of the Nahel bond, whether by accident or on purpose. Otherwise, they might well exist as long as their bonded partner stays true to their oaths. Or the Knight Radiant dies.
RShara she/her Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) I dunno, I'm giggling over the typo where the Stormfather boned with Dalinar. Nobody can resist a spern! This thread is going places! (Also, spellcheck/proofreading is your friend!) We have a WoB that as long as the bond is unbroken, the spren doesn't suffer(except emotionally from a dear friend dying) from the death of their KR. Ketek Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 This thread is going places! (Also, spellcheck/proofreading is your friend!) The typo was intentional, remember that other spren thread that spelled 'sprens' as 'sperns'?
