Aon Ati he/him Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 These are two of the most powerful swords I have found in fiction, and I can't decide which is more powerful. Nightblood will destroy almost anything it touches (excluding aluminum), and with each bit of investiture that is consumed the sword grows more powerful; to the point where even Shards are taking notice of it. Dragnipur entraps the soul in an endless prison that can hold gods. However the prison is not inescapable and I don't know if there are entities that the sword cannot entrap. So those are the contenders. I personally think Dragnipur is more powerful then Nightblood when they each appear in their respective series for the first time, but Nightblood will eventually outrank Dragnipur as the Cosmere goes on. 2
Karger he/him Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Nightblood can be deadly without even using it to kill people personally. Provided you can wield it safely you don't even need any sword training to use it. Just give it to your enemy as a present.

Interesting pairing, I would say that it comes done to a couple of things, spoilered below because it has some spoilers for Malazan Book of the Fallen (safe to read if you've read up through Toll of the Hounds) and Oathbringer spoilers. Spoiler It would depend on whether Nightblood could be swallowed by Dragnipur. It's admittedly a little odd to picture Nightblood chained to the wagon that is keeping the forces of Chaos at bay, but he's undoubtedly powerful enough that if his strength could have been added it might have forestalled Rake's sacrifice at the end of Toll of the Hounds. Also, could Nightblood leach off the magic from the pocket realm of Dragnipur? Nightblood's leaching power seems to be a proximate effect, so if he could leach the energy, Nightblood could go supernova in terms of upping his power by feeding on both the raw force of Chaos and Kurald Galain. My guess is this is how it would go down, Nightblood would begin to leech off the power of Chaos and Kurald Galain from Dragnipur, until the point where he gets drunk with power, and then Dragnipur would shatter him and capture whatever sentient bit of identity that he has, I mean he's essentially like the cognitive equivalent of a 3 year old. How he would manifest within Dragnipur's pocket realm is anyones guess, my guess is that he sees himself as anthropomorphized, so he would either be a child with metallic skin or possibly a walking sword kind of like the crooning sword from Who Framed Roger Rabbit: Don't know if you're Malazan obsessed or not Aon Ati, but if you like deep dives into Malazan related stuff, there's a great thread started by @Ammanas: Would be interested to see how some of the regulars on the Malazan thread think this match would go down, how about it @AngelEy3, @officiumdefunctorum, and @Orlion the Platypus? 1
