Kaladin's successor Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 My favorite book is probably WoR. Although I also really like Way of Kings. 1
Wander89 he/him Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 It depends really. My first foray into Sanderson was Mistborn, then I tried Way of Kings and was just overwhelmed. I read Patrick Rothfuss' Name of the Wind and Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea and went back to Way of Kings and was fascinated by it all. It truly cemented its way into the top fantasy novels of all time.
Nnatel she/her Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 I'm totally for Warbreaker, although while reading I got stuck in the middle for quite a long time. Then opened it one day and ended up reading untill 4 a.m. (finishing the book). As I really enjoyed Stormlight, I didn't fall in love with it. Wow, Earthsea, love that. (sorry, had to react to someone mentioning one of my favourite fantasy). And I actually tried Name of the wind, love the way it is written, but I didn't manage to finish it. But it was years ago, I should probably try one more time. 1

I managed to buy the illustrated edition and it's got some gorgeous artwork!
Use the Falchion Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Mistborn 1 is what I used to say. I still thinks so, really. But Oathbringer was really important to me at a really dark time so I usually state both.
Ishar Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 I hate this question. Always. It really depends on what mood I am in. I think probably Oathbringer right now, but that is also the cosmere book that I most recently read in entirety, which tends to influence my opinions.
Kaladin's successor Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 I read Oathbringer and it was really captivating, but the ending was confusing. So, I still think that WoR is a bit better
not an Evil Librarian Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 I was going to say Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians, but then I remembered, that book wasn't written by Brandon. 3
Jaywalk he/him Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 I’d have to say Oathbringer myself. The ending, especially on my reread, was amazing on so many levels. Not to mention Dalinar’s arc. So good.
Aluminum he/him Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 I'm actually a huge fan of the Rithmatist. The magic system is definitely up there with anything from the Cosmere. In the Cosmere probably Bands of Mourning. So good
Bookish Ocelot she/her Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 This is hard. The first one I read was Warbreaker, followed by TWoK. But my favorite is probably WoR, because so much happens in it.
+ILuvHats he/him Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 It’s Mistborn the Final Empire for me. WoR is a really close second, but Mistborn will always have a special place in my heart as the first cosmere book I read.
Datan Nomlibash Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 The Emperor's Soul is a great book. I feel that it doesn't get the love the other books get since its not a thousand page tree killer.
NotarySojac Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 This may be a slightly weird answer to this question, but while I think Emperor's Soul is probably his best-written book, the one I always come back to for rereads is Steelheart. Part of that is probably because up until very recently, I was very busy with schoolwork and less willing to commit to reading longer and more complicated works, but I think there is also something about it that makes me reread it 6+ times and enjoy it every time.
