I reading this old thread about shardblade forms when I thought about the differences between Radiantblades and dead shardblades, and then I thought about shardplate: what differences are there? Radiantplate glows? And I thought: what if Shardplate IS invincible like shardblades, but only when it's not dead?

The difference between live plate and dead plate is that you can summon live plate just like living blades, whole or in sections. Dead plate has to be put on like middle ages armor.

Perhaps live plate is stronger or regrows faster?  Also midnight essences could be able to destroy it easier.  They are not exactly conventional opponents.

If we look at what happens when Kaladin jumps into Adolin's duel in WoR the shardhelm he steals holds together under far more strain than it probably should, seeing as it's described as being crisscrossed with cracks (or something like that, don't have access to the book right now) which seems to imply that shardplate, at all, holds together better with a radiant there to power it, rather than infused gems.

Keep in mind that Radiants can also be actively feeding stormlight to the plates while within, kinda like a passive regeneration effect that allows prolonged use, but they also lose potential investiture to bind with. IIRC Kal notes a loss of stormlight after the fight.

Radiant plate in the past vision was also glowing. I feel like it feeds off stormlight to stay intact but it can also be super charged and can act like a stormlight battery. Thats more of a personal hope nothing to really back it up. Dead plate still has so many perks I cant wait to see a radiant gain theirs.
