Hi all,

The first Sanderson book I read was Elantris, and I was lucky enough to be able to have my copy signed when I met Brandon at a con. I'm about 140 pages into The Way of Kings--Kaladin has survived his first outing as a bridgeman, and Shallan is gathering books as part of some plot to get Jasnah to accept her as a ward. I'm really curious about the windspren that's following Kaladin around and seems to have level of consciousness that other spren don't.

I've read a fair amount of epic fantasy: LOTR, ASOIAF, Bradley P. Beaulieu's Song of the Shattered Sands series, and the first two books of S.A. Chakraborty's Daevabad trilogy. I have R.A. Salvatore's Child of a Mad God but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is one of my favorite books of all time. (I don't know if it technically counts as epic fantasy, since it's set in actual England, but it has Fair Folk, prophecies, mages, and a legendary mage-king, so I figure it's close enough.) So I'm really looking forward to diving into the Cosmere!

Welcome to the 17th Shard! You can do all sorts of cosmerey stuff here and even a little uncosmerey stuff! We warmly welcome you here, so discuss to your hearts content.  If anyone offers you cookies do not take them.

I would be curious as to who your favorite cosmere character is and what you and Sanderson said (roughly) if you talked to him. That windspren is really cool.-Elend

P.S. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, we shall help to our best efforts.

P.P.S.There is also a cosmere role play called Alleyverse you could join if you cared to. There are several guilds within it and if you were to join the role play, I would strongly suggest that you choose which guild you were to join, (if at all) wisely.

Sup.

(I'm so, so sorry)

I don't have any cookies, but take the first one you're offer. Doing so will set your path for the rest of your time here on the Shard...

EDIT: Two things Elend. First off, the Alleyverse is not a cosmere roleplay. We aren't pedestrians. :P Second, ouch, no need to plug the whole rp right here.

Hello! Welcome to the Shard! You're going to have fun with Stormlight Archive, honestly, just stay far, far away from the board on that until you're done with the most recent book (this also goes for any other cosmere books you may have read but not finished the series) unless you don't mind spoilers.

Also, would you like a cookie? Completely safe, I promise! I'm one of the good ones. I only mess with Lunamor with baked goods that aren't wholesome, everything else is fine.

Since when did this happen?

I feel like this is gonna scare off more new people than it attracts...

(Dunno, but Meeker and Voidus both came and asked if I wanted to be in an Alleyverse guild before I even signed up to be in the rp.)

I really liked Galladon in Elantris. Both Shallan and Kaladin are pretty cool, but I don't have a solid favorite in Stormlight yet.

So, the day I met Sanderson, I was wearing a Star Trek t-shirt that showed Picard and Riker looking at a sewing machine, and Riker was saying "Make it what?" Sanderson said he liked the shirt. He sketched Aon Rao alongside his signature in my book--without having to check the glossary at the back, despite this being a book he'd written years ago. The guy in front of me in line asked some question about allomancy. I think it had something to do with a theory based on some of the actual physical/chemical properties of metals. And even though we were near the end of the line--so Sanderson had been answering questions and signing books for close to an hour already--he seemed genuinely interested and enthusiastic that someone had thought about his work in such depth.

Thank you. That last part is basically a perfect description of Sanderson. I must agree that Galladon is cool.
