I Pink Elephant Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Greetings fellow fans/followers/lovers of Sanderson! I am I Pink Elephant and this is me introducing myself! I first found out about Brandon and his work a few years back when my best friend recommended Mistborn: The Final Empire to me. He said it was one of the best books he had ever read and so on such high recommendation I brought it without question, yet it wasn’t until quite some time later that I actually started reading it (It was during my collage days when my life was changing quite rapidly to say the least.) When I actually did sit down and started reading it however I couldn’t finish it fast enough. Never before or even ever since have I read a book with such a passion before, and I simply fell in love with the world of Mistborn. The plot was so original, combining a high fantasy world in which the bad guy rules with a vague heist-like plot in which to topple him. I felt really immersed in the world of Scadrial and it was the first time I realized the depths worthy writers went to in making their own world a living and believable place. I found the magical system to be fascinating and beautifully crafted, with the fights being well choreographed. Allomancy is currently my favourite form of magic in any fiction I have read (And yes the, thought of flying through the sky and mists with a mist cloak is one of the reasons I like it so much as much!) The biggest highlight of the book however was the fantastic and very realistic characters that I followed eagerly with every turn of the page. Every single one of them felt like a breathing living characters and I did shed tears for at times for them. I swiftly went on to read the entire Mistborn trilogy and loved every second of it. I am planning on picking up Elantris soon and have just started reading The Way of Kings (Amongst many other titles I must…) and am so far enjoying it very much! So, I guess I should say a little about me personal. Well, I live in England and am a want-to-be writer/reviewer who will soon be starting a Creative Writing course of which I am eagerly looking forward to start. Before I finally decided to try writing as more than just a hobby I studied for six years to work with animals, with reptile and invertebrates being my favourites. Pet wise I have five snakes (Two corns, two boas and one Hognose) as well as nine tarantulas, two Praying Mantis, three Dutch Rabbits and three Ferrets. I adore reading, especially fantasy/horror with some of my favourite writers being Brandon of course, Philip Pullman, Mark Haddon, JK Rowling, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, J. R. R. Tolkien and H. P. Lovecraft. I am huge fan of anime, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Last of the Summer Wine and The X-Files. I love all types of music but recently I have gained a passion for the classical genre. Well, that’s me more or less! I am looking forward to traveling the forum and discussion the books with you all.
Eerongal he/him Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Welcome to 17th shard! Since it seems you haven't read all of brandon's work yet, I'll go ahead and put out the usual disclaimer to be careful on the theories board, as its rife with spoilers and doesn't require spoiler tags. Also, since you haven't said how much you know about brandon's work, i'll go ahead and point you to the Cosmere 101 thread, just in case you weren't aware of how brandon's books are connected. Note that it's slightly spoiler-ish, but not that bad in the scheme of things, and even though you haven't read the books would elicit more of a "huh, didn't know that" response rather than "this thread ruined the book for me" response. I don't know how much you care about spoilers, but I know some people can't STAND 'em, which is why i give you such warnings. Anywho, look forward to seeing you around! I'm Eerongal, the resident global mod! Hope you enjoy your stay and all that!
SOM1else he/him Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 The fact that you just told him/her (your profile doesn't say) to stay away from general theories and then immediately posted a link to Cosmere 101 is kinda amusing, they only real spoilers in that thread are Mistborn related so you shouldn't have much of a problem with it. They are MAJOR spoilers for how HoA ends so if you hadn't finished it I would warn you to stay away, But you have finished it so go right on ahead and read it. Stay away from the other Gen Theories though. Heh, yeah, i figured i'd mention the cosmere 101, because there was no indication about any knowledge of how the cosmere works, and i knew there were some heavy mistborn spoilers, but figured those would be fine, there just isn't really any major spoilers for any OTHER books. but yeah, i considered that contradiction that came pretty much in the same breath, and found it slightly amusing myself.
Kuri Shardweaver he/him Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Welcome aboard! You sound awesome, and your profile pic is Aisha Clanclan, so Kuri approves!

Alliare she/her Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Hello! Saw your introducing topic the day before yesterday, but I was just about to go to bed, then, so I didn't answer then. Think it's time to make up for that XD. I'm Alliare, and I'm pretty new here, too, but I'm already feeling like at home, for everyone here is very friendly, you'll see Besides, you seem a kind person too - and very interesting. I love animals and, as such, tend to get along well with people who do, too - and it seems you love them. Five snakes? Now, that's a feat! If I'd ever tried to enter a snake at home, my mother would have bolted though the door - not exactly the best idea (my cousin had one, though. He kept it hidden from his mother. Yes, he had a big room). Never thought about having tarantulae, though I once held one in my hand. So, nice to meet you! I'm also looking forward to seeing you posting here and there. And... oh, wait... you are a huge fan of anime... and you like reptiles... and have snakes... I got you! 1

I hope you enjoy yourself here at 17S!
I Pink Elephant Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 Thank you all for the warm reception! Sorry I am late replying, been busy with my course and stuff! Hello! Great to meet more animal/anime lovers! My parents don't mind my snakes or bugs at all (As long as they stay in there viv's... though some of the corns have escaped once or twice! Only one Tarantula has though.)
