The constables around droppped in the swarm of creatures, and Csilen looked in shock as almost half were killed.

A pain shot in his back and he fell to feel a scorching pain behind him. A laser? He looked to the male fugitive, the one who’d caused it, and smiled, supertapping an entire metalmind of Connection and targeting it at the man.

Csilen, quite literally, became the nicest guy in the world for a second.

And the surviving constables began firing like crazy at the party.

AJ froze as he realized how kind this guy was. He didn’t deserve to be frozen! He quickly made a portal, redirecting the freeze ray he fired up. “Hello. You know, you’re a nice guy. I like you. Can we be friends even if I have to run away from you?”

A bullet pinged off the shield. The handerfle hissed. "That'sss our cue to leave."

He spread his wings and lifted off, taking Thought with him.

WAAAAIIIT!!! What about me?!

AJ turned to the cop. “Well, it was nice, friend. Goodbye!” AJ casually ran after the creatures. Screaming for them to return.

Arsek's still on the ground. Don't worry. :)

Arsek let AJ get onto his back, then began to follow his companion.

Thought turned toward the ship, feeling the wind in her hair. For a second, she remembered the majesty of riding the winds, but the memory was out of her reach before she could truly grasp it.

AJ was relieved. He was worried he'd be left behind amidst many dangerous creatures. He smiled and relaxed as he created a portal to catch up to Thought with.

The handerfles flew on.

The taller one shifted Thought up onto his back. "Sssorry for the dissscomfort, Tamika. I-"

He froze, realizing what he had just said.

The handerfle paused. "I... I pick up thingsss. From my bosss..."

He swallowed, aware he wasn't being very convincing.

Arsek looked over, interested. He spoke something in the strange handerfle language, along with something that sounded like a laugh.

The taller handerfle glared at him. "Your commentsss are not apprecssiated, Arsssek."

Arsek snorted and began to slow down. They were approaching the ship, which bobbed in the entrance to an underground tunnel.

I read your TLPW backstory. Can I make a few slight edits to the beginning?

His name isn't Keyed. :P That's what he's been calling Thought.

Instead of being part of the 16, she joins a smaller group (6 or 7) to try and find a magical artifact. They find it, but in order to work they need one more piece. To do that, they go to a Shardworld where the shard is without a Vessel. Thought (then called Tamika) takes up the Shard to either discover/create the final piece, but it goes wrong.

The taller handerfle hesitated.

"No." he said. "I didn't."

His mind was racing. This was not good.

At that moment, they touched down on the deck of the ship.

Thought stepped down on the deck and looked back at the handerfle. "We'll have to talk later. What is your name?"

That's fine. Fits her better anyway.

Arsek looked wounded. He spoke something in handerfle language.

The taller handerfle looked up and laughed. "Arsssek isss insssulted by your comment, human. You have wounded hisss ego."

At that moment, Sam appeared from thin air. He blinked his eyes and fell over. In his hand was clutched a something that looked like a key.

He was speaking to AJ, actually.

Sam stood up, putting a hand to his head. He felt… strange.

He looked down at the key in his hand, then up towards the taller handerfle. He blinked. "Rorim? Why...?"
His eyes widened. "No..." he whispered.

Rorim ignored the half-handerfle. "No. Keyed refersss to... sssomething elssse."

He was tall, but not too tall. He looked older, maybe late thirties. He had brown hair, blue eyes, and a light beard. He had a tinge of recklessness in his eyes, but it was tempered by a sense of weariness that hung around him. This was a man who had lived life for a long, long time.

Sam sank to his knees in horror. "No, no, no...."
