One of the biggest worldwide gem and mineral shows takes place in Tucson, AZ and you can see gems, rocks and minerals in rough state, polished, and everything in between. This is actually 3 dozen or so, different shows. And this gives you a different perspective than just seeing what a jeweler has on display. One year I saw an emerald that was, in its rough state, as wide as my arms held out. So, I made a point to take pictures this year and I wanted show a bit of what I saw.

Amethyst

Presumably, Brandon wasn't thinking of green amethyst. I should have taken a picture of that.

Quartz and Smoky Quartz (ie Smokestone)

Emerald

Oh, did you think this was ruby? Denied! This is red emerald.

Notice, the difference between emerald, helidor (almost no one uses that name any more), and aquamarine are all just a matter of shade. What would a greenish yellow beryl be? What if it has too much blue?

Diamonds

Diamonds come in a wide range of colors.

Helidor

Notice the comparison

Ok, this is actually aquamarine, which is just a variety of beryl, like emerald and helidor.

I know I had pictures of sapphire and ruby, but not in the rough. And I mis-placed the image I had of zircon - looks similar to the topaz.

They're at Rapa River. They sell a bunch of things, a lot of gemstone skulls. I remember some dragon skulls that were amazingly carved.

Opals are among the host of gems I wish were Stormlight-active. Fire opals especially.

Same. I cut and polish opals as a hobby, so I'm sad that they're not a polestone!
