lwd24era he/him Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Hello fellow creators and brainsmiths. My name is lwd I am currently working on a fan fiction based in modern-ish Scadrial. I have a few questions I'd like to ask before posting anything. 1) is this the correct place to post this 2) what do you all think of fan fics and 3) I need a good name for someone who has a feruchemical ability, a alomantic ability and a hemalurgic spike. Any suggestions? -L
Awesomeness Summoned he/him Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 1) If you didn't see it, there is a Sanderson Fan-fiction section here in the Creator's Corner, but this would be a fine place to brainstorm before actually writing I think. 2) Think the fact there is a category for fan-fic means they are generally well received here. 3) There are some definite Scadrian Magic Aficionados in this forum that will likely already have opinions on that matter so I'll leave those suggestions up to them.
Quiver he/him Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Shameless plugging! http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/7548-discussion-fanfiction-and-literature/ Anyway, I'm generally a lot more positively disposed towards fan fiction these days; I'm writing one of my own for MLP, planning one for Mistborn, enjoyed the SA one posted on this board (Periapsis) and am a big fan of Feathers writing, period. If you want to post fan fiction here, I say go for it- I'd be really curious to see what you create. For names... can you elaborate on the context? Since hemalurgy isn't a 'natural' magic, I don't think it needs it's own name like Ferring/Misting, so depending on how you're using it in the story might determine how it's named.

I think he meant a name for someone that has all three abilities. Similar to how they are called twinborns in AoL. Edit: Actually an idea just came to me. Since they encompass the full spectrum of Harmony's investiture, how about Harmonics? Edited May 16, 2014 by Awesomeness Summoned

I shall use that as a working name until/if I find one I like better. Edited May 18, 2014 by lwd24era
lwd24era he/him Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 (edited) Really rough draft, part of chapter one. Let me know any comments, criticisms, advice, haikus etc. Be gentle, first timer. Edit: Don't read if you want to only view the final draft. https://docs.google.com/document/d/118dRO0q36w-my3msSk8CLdRM13ivne5nfRyJ-SU0TDk/edit Edited May 18, 2014 by lwd24era 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I Like. Though I notice that He never really Specifically said what his abilities were. I assume he's just a Coinshot? 1
lwd24era he/him Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 Yessir(: any criticisms/comments? Anything you'd like to see?
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 My only Comment is that you can't seem to chose a Profile Picture. Storywise, Is Ren a Cop? or what?
lwd24era he/him Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 (edited) lol yeah ill probably bounce between purple link pics. He is a Private Investigator. So he carries a gun and a P.I.'s badge. Edited May 18, 2014 by lwd24era
Lightsworn Panda he/him Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 You could improve in certain areas. For example: "Trying to pick out a gun in all this metal would be like searching for a needle in a sea of needles." Doesn't really make sense. I think there's a reason straw is used in the original simile. Overall, I like how you adapted Brandon's style and added a bit of your own. 1
lwd24era he/him Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 (edited) Yeah that was a weak simile, sorry ): Thank you!(: EDIT: Note: I used a the phrase "sea of needles" because of the metal involved, cuz he's a coinshot. Edited May 18, 2014 by lwd24era
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 A needle in Newcago? a Needle in a Smeltry? A Coin in a Bank?
