Question

Posted (edited)

There are 10 out of the 16 Shards that we have encountered or at least seen the effects of, but what order did they come in? I have 3 worked out: Honor was 10, Odium 9, and Preservation 16.

Not all shards have numbers that are important to them, and of those that do, the numbers seem as much or more tied to the system/planet as it is to the Shard itself.

Do all shards have a number they're associated with?

Some do, (most/some) don't.

The shards themselves do not have numbers associated with them, though some systems do.  The whole Greater Roshar solar system is 10 (with Braize as the exception being 9 for some presumably nefarious reason), Nalthis is 5.  Preservation had a thing for 16 but it doesnt manifest outside of his direct influence, and I tend to think it's more him echoing the 16 Shards directly.

Herald (paraphrased)

Is there more significance to the 10 other planets around the Rosharan star system and them being gaseous? We know that Roshar's moons have unnatural orbits; so there seems to be some astronomical manipulation in the system.

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Yes there is significance of 16 in cosmere and 10 in Rosharan system.

Herald (paraphrased)

The outer 10 gas giants in the Rosharan system suggest a tie to the number 10 that predates the arrival of the current Shards. Is the prominent numerology we see around the cosmere an inherent property of the planets, rather than the Shards who invest them?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Big RAFO.

Herald (paraphrased)

Would Ashyn/Braize share the 10-centric numerology of Roshar?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Yes 10-centric is for the entire Rosharan planetary system...wait Braize is 9-centric.
