Arcalim he/him Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 (edited) Opening of WoR, Jasnah runs into dark ink like shapes with one of them having a regal like bearing. If I am not mistaken this is ivory testing her. She mentions that ivory was an outcast even among his own spren but he has a regal bearing and a scholar like mind. Think it’s mentioned in OB. I missed this in my first rereads and it only made sense when I was listening to the audio book. Oh also the grouped up eyes that she has felt on her for months was the ink spren watching her to see if she was fit to be bonded. Just like when Sly sees her sisters watching the squire bridgemen training. Edited October 18, 2018 by Arcalim Clarity 1
Localconfusi0n Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Jasnah is probably the person who's been a KR the longest as far as we know. She had a bond before WoK and we aren't even sure what Oath she's on, pretty sure I saw an argument that she might already have Plate that was pretty convincing

RShara she/her Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Yes, her experience in the Prologue of WoR was when Ivory and she first interacted.

When she sees her shadow pointing the wrong way she thinks "not again." Do we know what that's referirng to (I'd guess her childhood "insanity" )?

Her shadow going the wrong way happens a couple of times in the Prologue, if I'm remembering right. Maybe it's whenever Ivory is observing her closely, or her thoughts and emotions bring her closer to being an Elsecaller. I don't think it's related to her childhood insanity. Remember she's already around 30 at this point, so that would be a good two decades ago or so. Edited October 18, 2018 by RShara

Gavilar's death and that of Shallan's mother happened around the same time but Jasnah's bond was just starting to form on the night of the former's assassination while Shallan's had been growing for some time before that, given that it was strong enough at that point for Pattern to manifest as a blade. Jasnah might have had some incidents similar to what happened on that night beforehand but I don't think she's in the same boat as Shallan where she had a bond and then nearly destroyed it, more likely Ivory was starting to take an interest in her and the night in question is simply when things came to a head. Her childhood insanity is probably something else. And yeah, there's evidence that Jasnah does have Plate by the end of Oathbringer but she's keeping that fact a secret. Pcomes across her during the battle and notes that there was a strange glow fading from the air around her that looked like geometric shapes. Earlier she also asks Shallan about Plate in a way that makes it sound like she either has it herself or at least knows more about how a Radiant gets it. And on that subject, Shallan herself probably has access to it but has compartmentalized that fact so she's only able to use it as 'Radiant' while Shallan tries not to think about it. There's some evidence of that from her conversation with Adolin early in the book and the events of Thaylen City. Edited October 18, 2018 by Weltall

That's a good point, Shallan already had the sword as a child around the same time that Jasnah was officially meeting her spren as an adult. It's possible Jasnah started a bond much earlier in life, but it was halted. It happened with Shallan and it may have happened with Szeth. Quote "I knew a voice like yours once, sword-nimi." The whispers? "No. A single one, in my mind, when I was young." Szeth shaded his eyes looking across the glistening lake. "I hope things go better this time." - OB Ch. 92. Water Warm as Blood
