Patrick Star Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Teft notes that there are Radiants who could "command the sunlight". There's a difference between light manipulation and straight-up laser beams of death. It takes an enormous amount of power to create a sustained, viable laser. I'd imagine that Lightweavers may be able to use it in a truly desperate situation, but that the stormlight consumption would be too high for viable use.

I've linked this before, I think, but it remains just as relevant. 'Light manipulation' is pretty terrifying as powers go, and takes very little power, since you're just focusing a bit of light. Dahak he/him Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Conversely when a knight radiant (as far as we have seen), runs out of stormlight, they need to wait for another highstorm to recharge their gems. Unless of course they do like Kal and fight IN THE MIDDLE of a highstorm lol Except for Lift. And based on what happened at the end of the last book Dalinar may be able to arrange sudden unexpected highstorms. Agree with p4thf1nd3r, also correct me if I'm wrong but don't we have WoB that in a fight between Kaladin & Kelsier, Kelsier would win? Kelsier has the advantage of being a Sliver and if he's back to face Kaladin, then he's basically also a Herald and supplied with atium. And knows how to use a] his powers (including the one that flushes investment out of people.) and b] is good at lying and ambushes.
Blassphamy Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Why do people keep bringing up Atium when it isn't part of the base 16 metals and is instead a god metal? Which would make it an extra magic additional to a mistborns own magic. That's like saying that Kal would have an honorblade as well as his normal powers to make it a fair fight.

Atium is pure Investiture, as is Stormlight. Kaladin seems to get an atium-like effect when consuming Stormlight, so it's not really that unfair to say Mistborn get atium.
Kasimir he/him Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) In fact, as far as I'm concerned, Soulcasting, once properly mobilised, would be pretty awesome. It occurs to me that people fighting during a Desolation still have to be able to feed themselves--the Alethi military has been taking advantage of Soulcasters to deal with these sorts of problems for a while, but they note Soulcasters are expensive and inflexible. The power to keep armies in the field, to not have to wait for harvests or to guard supply lines and to even be able to shelter and call up other Alethi to fight, allowing for a protracted war...Huh, that's pretty impressive to me. (I'm sure they could do things in a straight-up fight, but I frankly find this more valuable in a Desolation.) Edited May 4, 2014 by Kasimir
Pathfinder Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 One thing I feel the need to add. Atium would be burned out FAR before Kal's stormlight is extinguished. Also to have more metals, the mistborn needs to down them. So please consider while the mistborn is shotgunning hundreds of coins, burning atium constantly, running and flipping around on pewter, and doing massive bursts of all of the above due to dularium (which burns all the metal being burned into one giant burst that exhausts that metal), he or she has to literally down new vials of metals every other second (case in point much of Vin's later battles)

Because Kelsier has the God who's been keeping his brother supplied with the stuff as a friend. The God that would be the one sending him back to life for the fight. And because Kelsier had the stuff available for all of his serious fights.
Pathfinder Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Because Kelsier has the God who's been keeping his brother supplied with the stuff as a friend. The God that would be the one sending him back to life for the fight. And because Kelsier had the stuff available for all of his serious fights. That is still incongruous. I believe the implication was this was a arena bout between two individuals with abilities from different sources. Now we are throwing in the surrounding mythos to back them up such as harmony? In that case then why doesn't Kal get a full shardplate, that functions like a complete radiant? Or for that matter, why doesn't the stormfather then back Kal by having a continual storm in presence constantly feeding Kal stormlight? Or the mists spontaneous appear, flood into Kelsier and he that pushing and pulling like Vin when she levels Kredik Shaw? For sanity sake, I think this comparison has to be defined. We know enough about Kaladin for his early base abilities. If this is so, then the same should apply to Kelsier. Kelsier should be allowed the abilities he holds in book one. Or even better, if we are comparing abilities then it should be nameless mistborn vs nameless windrunner.
