For fans of Fables comics

Is anyone else currently devouring this series? I love these books so much. Fables is one of my favorite series now. I am currently on Volume 12 of Fables and volume 6 of Jack of Fables. I am also currently trying to get the Pewter & Max novel from my library when I get the chance. I love this series.

Fables is great. I was lucky enough to start it with the singles from the beginning and I've been hooked since. My buddy and I have been modding Fables heroclix figures. There are some surprisingly appropriate figures.

 

I know that there is a video game coming (or possibly already out) but I don't play video games so that's the extent of my knowledge.

 

Are there any other comic books that you read?

Yeah, it's an episodic one, which means, for video games, the game is released in individual parts, one a month much like a comic book. I play video games, but I am unable to lately with how busy I keep myself lol. 

 

Yeah, I recently started The Unwritten and Chew, both of which I loved. My all-time favorite comic was Bone by Jeff smith. I read it last summer and it was amazing. Also, I am one of many highly anticipating the final issue of Kick-chull in may, the only superhero comic I read. And there are two webcomics I read: Schlock Mercenary, Girl Genius; and I want to read Sam & Fuzzy.

Thanks, 17th Shard for changing a dirty word for bum to "chull" so that we can talk about Mark Millar's comic series "Kick-chull." That gave me a big laugh.

 

Bone was magnificent. I've recommended it to everyone I know of every age.

 

I read a lot of comics, but it's almost exclusively comics from the Big Two (Marvel and DC.) Right now I'm re-reading James Robinson's Starman. Which is an absolute work of art.

 

You might try Transmetropolitan. It's about a gonzo reporter in a weird futuristic world. Brilliant and hilarious.

Yeah, I actually have a list of comics I want to read. Trans metropolitan, 100 Bullets, Preacher and Sixth Gun are priority. I really wanted to read one called Greek Street, but it was canceled.

I don't care much for the big two, but I love Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. They're easily the most interesting of DC for me. Marvel's okay, but if I had to choose one it would be Iron Man. Not even the story so much, just the origin story and the characters.

Hey, I don't suppose you know of other fantasy comics in the vein of either Fable, The Unwritten or Bone, do you? Or anything quirky like chew?

I have the same problem with Fable that I do with Hellblazer; so many comics, so little money.

It's not quite like Fables, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention Locke and Key. I think the last volume was released recently, and it might just be my favourite comic of all time. Seriously; I love that book, to the extent that I'm seriously considering picking up the oversized, overpriced 'Welcome to Lovecraft' edition.

I'm mostly a DC fan these days, but I have been getting into certain books from other companies. I've started picking up the My little Pony ongoing and it's a hugely enjoyable book. If you want quirky, Manhattan Projects might fit the bill. It's certainly a bit of an off kilter book, albeit it more than a little dark.

I've heard of Manhattan Projects! Haven't ream much about it though. I assume it's historical lol. Queen &Country is another one I'm interested in.

Locke & Key sounds pretty interesting. So do most of Joe Hill's books. I'll have to find his stuff somewhere. Hellblazer enbded recently, so I'll get to that someday.

And I don't have any money either. I get the regular volumes at my local library. The have almost all of them.

All three of those are really good.

 

Fables is my favorite currently monthly, and I'm sad to see it end.

 

Hickman has great ideas, though I think his dialogue tends to be a bit week. There's an older series he did, Pax Romana that really blew my mind.

 

Unwritten is pretty interesting. I prefer Carey / Gross's previous series Lucifer much more.

 

I don't know if you've not seen it, but Warren Ellis had a fun webcomic, FreakAngels. It's still online, iirc. Nice read.

Yeah: Fables, Fairest and The Unwritten all end next year. Apparently Chew will end with #60 and both Wasteland and Manhattan Projects are on their final arc. It's pretty funny, all of the series I want to or am reading have either ended or will end withing the next year or so.

I figured something was going to happen to Fables with Buckingham. Marvel was eventually going to be redoing Miracleman, and when they did that, he / Gaiman would need to finish up the final issues of it - though I can't imagine what, if anything follows the final arc, The Dark Ages.

Well from what I understand, the Dark Ages story is already finished and there's a current plot concerning Camelot, so I think that's what they'll end with.

I don't know anything about the Miracleman stuff, or even what it i, but yeah. It's coming to an end. I regret not starting the series when it first launched.

They're now reprinting them / recoloring them. Pretty good stuff, though there was a censoring issue with #1.

 

I would recommend reading them, of course.
