Asperity he/him Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 I don't feel that there was any Cosmere-related influence upon Sadeas. He always appeared to be a mere power-hungry leader lusting for the old days of success and conquest. I have no idea why people read so much into him.
Necromancer he/him Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 I'm betting that Odium heavily influenced him, but you have to understand in his own mind he was protecting his country, more important than dalinar or any single person. Many people in the series seem to have this idea, that they can do horrible things for a percieved greater good. Destination rather than journey, if you will. As was Amaram's line of thought.
TraSor Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 While I'd love to espouse the idea of Sadeas being replaced by a kandra, I sadly must concur with the idea that Odium or Nergaoul got to him. Sigh Well Sadeas is a Nergaoul (thrill) junkie. 1
Ketek Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I highly doubt anyone spiked Sadeas with a Hemalurgic spike. Remember, Ruin no longer exists by the time of the Stormlight Archive. It's Harmony. If anything, Sadeas would be compelled to do absolutely nothing. 1
Shardmancer he/him Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Hemalurgic Spikes is said by Sanderson to be present throughout the cosmere. We do not need Ruin for Hermalurgy to take affect in people. But I do beleive Sadeas was just a man corrupted by his own thoughts and having a shardblade added to that, as it seems it makes men even more power hungry and dangerous.
Crysanja Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 guess this goes back to Gavilar. as i understand Sadeas was playing a decoy to protect Gavilar - so we can asume he acepted the rul of him. while protecting Gavilar in this way, Dalinar was drunk and useless. but now Dalinar more or less usurped the throne for a long time, and its getting worse and worse. when it was importand Dalinar was drunk and now he claims the high horse with his honorable behavior thing. we dont know how honorable Dalinar was in the past - my guess is that he wasnt. --- i can understand Sedeas, that he does not like anyone to undermine the throne. when he reached for more power (high prince of information) Dalinar fought against it. so what todo against it? his way is war, which is accepted by most Alethi. --- i dont agree with Sedeas, as i dont agree with Dalinar. but i think Sedeas has a point here, Dalinar does alot of harm. maybe more then an arbitrary king.
Kobold King he/him Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Well Sadeas is a Nergaoul (thrill) junkie. Remember highprinces: Just say no.
Ketek Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Hemalurgic Spikes is said by Sanderson to be present throughout the cosmere. We do not need Ruin for Hermalurgy to take affect in people. Hemalurgic spikes don't turn people into crazed murderers, that was Ruin's influence. Now that Harmony is in charge, the influence he would have is pretty much to turn people into more passive participants. Or he wouldn't do anything at all. Beyond that, the only thing a spike would do is grant someone powers. Since we have never seen Sadeas use Allomancy, or Awakening, or one of the Dor-based magics, it's highly unlikely someone spiked him. 1
