Good day, members of the 17th Shard!

Been lurking on these forums for a couple months. I finally caved and signed up when there had been no discussion of a certain tidbit about feruchemy from the Elendel Daily broadsheet, and I am dying to know what other people pulled from it. Everyone who has read the broadsheet go comment on it. :D

Funny story, I discovered this site in early May, and this news story was still close to the top:

BREAKING NEWS: A Memory of Light to be Split Again

Wheel of Time fans will be disappointed to learn that the final installment of the series, A Memory of Light, has been split. Again. Brandon Sanderson confirmed in a recent exclusive interview with 17th Shard that the final book has been split into another three volumes, bringing the total number in the series to sixteen.

For a few minutes, I was more shocked than I have been in a very long time, until I realized the story was posted on April 1. Yeah. Best month-late April Fool's Day joke I have ever fallen for.

Hey there Gagylpus, great to see you finally sign up :D

and indeed, that news article caught out a good few of us lol

Same thing happened to me, except it was in June that I discovered it. Keeping an April's Fools joke up so long after April first is just evil.

Anyways, welcome to the site.

I saw it on April 1st, like a boss. I'm not very good at picking up on the jokes at first, it takes me a minute to make the connection, since I never really pay attention to the date.

I saw the thread name from the Forum main page and thought, "Is that a Portal 2 reference?" Then I clicked into the board and saw the subline for the thread: "The title is a Portal 2 reference." Awesome.

Good to see you here! I'm Silus, I post here and run an RP and stuff.

Well, leaving it up so long was more a function of us not having much to say news-wise. I guess in retrospect it was incredibly devious of us :P

Glad you could join us, Gagylpus. I often wonder how much the lurkers like the site. Judging from the user list, there seems to be a lot of them. But! You're here now, and for that we are thankful.

heh, it's good to see this prank is still getting people over 4 months after it's initial inception! :P

welcome to the forums, and all that jazz!

Thanks everyone!

Looking around the intro forum, my heart is warmed to see some other members who love both math and language. I guess I'm not really surprised to see some like-minded individuals here. :D Math is awesome!

I once taught myself the basics of tensor algebra and differential geometry so I could understand the mathematical description of general relativity... these days I'm (unsuccessfully) trying to wrap my head around group theory and abstract algebra because it seems to have some bearing on the Standard Model. Quantum mechanics is STRANGE.

seems you're after my own heart, Group theory is AWESOME, ridiculously so XD

Well, for quantum field theories, yes, group theory can be useful, but my particle physics class didn't cover it in detail. We just took the rules that other people had made and applied them. I don't think it is necessarily a prerequisite. I can tell you all about it! (At least, quantum electrodynamics) Regular old quantum mechanics only uses group theory for some spin stuff, and you can give that a wide miss too. But nice, you know more about relativity than I do. I've avoided GR pretty much.

Also, abstract algebra is laaame :P

such an over analysis :P though I guess everything is relative, generally speaking :P

Correction, MATH is lame.

:o:blink:

How dare you?! Math is awesome. Think about it. Why, without math... well, there'd be no Portal 2! No internet either. So I say, math is awesome. :D

Correction, MATH is lame.

Math makes particle accelerators and rockets work--two undeniably awesome things.

anyone that thinks maths is lame, doesn't know maths...
