As far as we know, at least 16 individuals used some kind of a weapon to shatter Adonalsium. Those 16 them picked up its pieces and became Shards. At first all 16 shards were equally powerful, so not only ruin and preservation were so vast, they all became that powerful. I bet some friendly souls can provide you with better answers and Words of Brandon to confirm what I said

It's possible it wasn't even needed a great power to kill him. Maybe Adonalsium put himself in a situation where the 16 managed to kill him without channeling tons of power.
