I've been thinking that maybe all of the Teris are Hoid's descendants.

He's old enough.  There's the seeming connection between worldsingers and worldbringers.  And, most compelling, he's a feruchemist.  Of course, he could gain that power some other way, but I think there's at least a chance that he's the origin of that magic system on Scadrial.  It's been confirmed that at least some Feruchemy involves a manipulation of the Higgs mechanism, which sent me down this rabbit trail thinking that maybe Feruchemists control bosons, while Allomancers control fermions (Fermions are responsible for the Pauli Exclusion which in turn is responsible for observable magnetism in metals).  Photons are bosons, which means there's a good chance that Lightweaving involves some sort of manipulation of the Higgs field.  So . . . I'm proposing that whatever genetic potential allowed lightweaving on Yolen either evolved or was somehow mastered to become Feruchemy on Scadrial.

Any thoughts??

Welcome to the Shard! Enjoy your stay, watch out for any hemalurgic cookies people may try to offer you.

Brandon has said that what Hoid does to know where he needs to be uses the same underlying mechanism as feruchemy, not that he's actually a feruchemist. The WoB that appears to say so was a paraphrase and has been superceded by newer ones that are more clear. That Hoid has been involved in Scadrial for longer than we've been able to directly observe is pretty much a certainty but that he's the origin of feruchemy is farfetched. Brandon's also directly stated that it's a system that arose as a balance between Scadrial's two Shards which means an outside influence was not required. Why it's only found in one specific population is certainly a valid question but this is one case where I don't think Hoiddidit is the answer. :D

We actually don't know if Hoid is a feruchemist other than unsealed metalminds in some early WoBs we were told he used Feruchemy, but in more recent WoBs we've been told this.

Xyrd (paraphrased)

You've mentioned before that Hoid ends up where he needs to be.

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Yes, and usually without knowing why.

Xyrd (paraphrased)

Is chromium involved in that?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Yes. Well, he's not necessarily using chromium, but the underlying mechanic, yes.

We've also been told that he has unsealed metalminds (medallions).

He may be a feruchemist, he may not. As to an entire race of people being his descendants... I doubt that. Mainly for genetic reasons rather than realmatic ones.

Feruchemy is a combination of Preservation and Ruin's investiture. I feel like their magic system first being endowed upon a person who predates their planets existence would be an odd choice. I also don't think that Hoid could obtain a magic system without first learning of its existence, and working to obtain it.

So Hoid having children, even Terris children is totally plausible to me. There's definitely some connection between the Worldsingers and Worldbringers. So I don't doubt he was active on pre-rashek Scadrial. I just don't think that he is either the source of Feruchemy in the Terris people, or that he is their progenitor.

Edit: @Weltall ninja'd with pretty much all the same points, and on reread a more personable tone. I fail on all counts.
