Hsien99 Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Dawn usually almost always applies precursor, genesis, and alpha the beginning, and we know what shards are for the most part. I would think that either they are power of pure creation left by Adonalsium himself a fraction of a fraction, but since they are perfect wouldn’t unduly influence the possessor. The shards themselves would have no sentience so if Jasnah happened to get hold of one she herself would become Logic, so it wouldn’t be like Tanavast acquired honor but they have their own personalities or Odium and Rayse. Kaladin would become possibly Compassion etc. They would be weaker separately than Odium but with resonance become stronger enough to possibly defeat him. Adonalsium himself is either formed out of creation or he is the source of creation if it’s the former then maybe the dawnshards are what’s left over after Adonalsium is formed.
Fezzik Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 IMHO, dawnshards "used for binding any creature, voidish or mortal" are perfect gemstones, capable of trapping spren indefinitely.
Calderis he/him Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Looking at the way the word "shards" is used on Roshar, I doubt it. They refer to blades and plate as shards. As tools. What you're describing is something that would be a miniature Shard, like the 16. Adonalsium's power was split among them, and all investiture in the Cosmere was assigned to them according to their nature's. Quote Overlord Jebus [PENDING REVIEW] Is all Investiture in the cosmere associated with a Shard? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Yes, well, okay. So this is a complicated one. *pauses* So, Investiture predates the Shattering of Adonalsium, all Investiture was from Adonalsium, all Investiture got assigned to one of the 16 Shards when Adonalsium was Shattered. Some of the Investiture was not on Yolen but location is irrelevant. So Investiture is related to Shards even on planets where none of the Shards are inhabiting. Overlord Jebus [PENDING REVIEW] Are they aware of that Investiture? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] That's part of the whole seeing into the infinite, being beyond even the power of a Shard. So, technically you could make the argument that Harmony could feel the sense of Preservation on every world in the cosmere, right? Because the building blocks of all life and creation are these things. Overlord Jebus [PENDING REVIEW] So the Shard of Preservation embodies all preservation in the cosmere? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] Yes but he just can't do that, right? Like, he's not infinite. The Vessels are not, even if their minds are enormously expanded by holding a Shard, they are not infinite. The Connection is all there in the Spiritual Realm source There was nothing excluded from that. I personally at this point, think that the Dawnshards are most likely the original, and extremely powerful, fabrials. Tools designed to harness the surges in specific, powerful ways. Their tools, and most likely weapons, the same as plate and blade are viewed to modern Rosharans. 1
TheHeadHancho Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Oh snap. Could a dawnshard be in Urithiru?
