So this is only really a theory that just popped in my head after hearing this line again.

“Spark is fine with what we’re doing,” Malata said, pressing her finger down and adding another swirl to the table. “I told you, the rest of them are idiots. They assume all the spren are going to be on their side. Never mind what the Radiants did to Spark’s friends, never mind that organized devotion to Honor is what killed hundreds of ashspren in the first place.”

Specifically

“Never mind what the Radiants did to Spark’s friends"

That phrasing seems out of place, why would spark refer to ash spren that had died before they where even created as their friends?

So I think spark is a spren that survived the recreance.

Or he was an unbonded spren at the time of the Recreance.  Spren don't really die, unless their Radiant breaks their oaths (and even then can be revived by the Radiant, and possibly-maybe by other people).  Don't forget Ico's father is a deadeye, and it doesn't sound like Ico had ever bonded a Radiant.

Edit: Sorry, did you MEAN an unbonded Radiant spren at the time of the Recreance?  I thought you meant he was a KR spren that was bonded, and survived the Recreance.

If you meant the former, then yeah--there are a number of spren still alive that were around during the Recreance.

I meant just that I think he was alive at the time of the recreance one way or another.

The theory in my head is that he was not only alive but also actually experienced the recreance first hand and this is why he wants revenge. The stormfather and syl where both alive at the time true but neither of them are pursuing vengeance for the lost spren so I think they must have had very different experiences of what happened than what spark did.

Well, Syl was unconscious at the time of the Recreance, and doesn't seem to have close ties with the ones that were lost.  The Stormfather was really pissed about the Recreance.  He tried to prevent Syl from crossing and sent the highstorm to clash with the Everstorm.  Syl says about him:

Quote

“A highstorm,” Kaladin said, shooting up through the sky after Szeth. “The red storm is from the Parshendi, but why is there a highstorm coming? This isn’t the time for one.”

My father,” Syl said, voice growing solemn. “He brought the storm, rushing its pace. He’s . . . broken, Kaladin. He doesn’t think any of this should be happening. He wants to end it all, wash everyone away, and try to hide from the future.”

Her father . . . did that mean the Stormfather wanted them dead?

Great.

The Spren have different temperaments based on their type. If spark is typical of an Ashspren, then they will either remain unbonded, or seek Retribution.

Spark was alive at the time or he couldn't have had "friends" killed by the Radiants, but he wasn't bonded. If he were, he'd be a dead blade.

Maybe "friends" was just Malata's way of refering to the species, that's how i read it at first since it fit her speech patterns (well from the little we saw), most spren are pissed to some extent at humans for the deaths of their ancestors, it just seems that some individuals are more vengeful than others, Spark doesn't have to have witnessed it. But if she truly is that old that potentialy gives Taravangian quite the information trove once the memories return. Curious to see if Spark is pulling a Syl in that she's going against the rest of her kind  in jumping straight into Odium's lap, don't think the Radiants can afford to lose a whole other order to the ennemi.
