ghajan monk Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 (edited) Nightblood is one of the great mysteries of the cosmere. A shardblade made out of awakened steel that bleeds black smoke and can force those it deems unworthy into murder and suicide. feats similar to Ashertmarn the Heart of Revel, or Neragaoul with the Thrill. I am not saying that nightbood is one of the Unmade merely that he (or she) could be a recreation of the Unmade's powers with the intent to DESTROY EVIL, and like the Unmade has an intense desire to understand his intent. Please feel free to poke holes in this idea or add to it at your leisure. Edited November 28, 2017 by ghajan monk
RShara she/her Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Mmmm...have you read Warbreaker? It sounds like you have, but I wanted to double check.
splinters Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 I imagine any similarities between the unmade and Nightblood are just side effects of them being so heavily invested. I do wonder if Nightblood's sense of evil is good enough to drive one of the unmade to destroy itself, or if it is powerful enough to destroy an unmade at all.

I think that the Unmade have been hollowed by Odium until all that is left is their Intent, which is the exact opposite process to the creation of nightblood, as nightblood was a sword that was filled with the intent to destroy evil.
RShara she/her Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Well the Unmade are splinters of Odium, so that will affect their behavior. Given Odium's intent is Hatred or Void, their Intent is generally going to be pretty unpleasant. @ghajan monk You might think of Nightblood as a splinter of Endowment. So in that consideration, they are similar. @splinters I think Nightblood would be powerful enough to kill an Unmade in the proper circumstances. I don't see how Nightblood would be able to drive one of the Unmade to destroy itself, though. From what we've seen of how Nightblood works, I don't think that he would be able to entice another Splinter into self-destruction. 2
ghajan monk Posted November 28, 2017 Author Posted November 28, 2017 @RShara I do wonder whether trapping one of the Unmade in a gemstone would make it easier or harder for nightbood to destroy it. Also the Unmade seem less malicious than I thought they would be before reading oathbringer. Neragaoul almost felt like Dalinar's pet dog he had to put down.
leester1478 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 @ghajan monk yep, just your normal, everyday, madness inducing lap dog. The mindless ones don't seem to be malicious, they just hurt everything around them by existing. Re-Shepir seems to be recalcitrant, but I'm guessing the other, sapient, Unmade are going to be quite nasty indeed. 1
ghajan monk Posted November 28, 2017 Author Posted November 28, 2017 @leester1478 We know some of the Unmade have been trapped for thousands of years while others have been free. This could cause bitterness towards each other and Odium.
