Arkadious Posted August 22, 2017 Report Share Posted August 22, 2017 So in Hemalurgy, the metals Iron, Tin, Zinc, and Copper all steal attributes that can be given to people, and turned into Blessings for kandra. It's also said that kandra Blessings are created specifically for kandra. A friend of mine was saying that the properties stolen for blessings were different than the attributes stolen for a spike. Hemalurgy is intent dependant, so no one can create a Hemalurgic spike on accident. Is the special preparation needed to create Blessings the intent to create a kandra Blessing? Do kandra blessing have a slightly different effect than a spike filled with the same attribute that is not a blessing? And is the gaining sentience from a Blessing a biological effect of a being a kandra/mistwraith, or is it a fundamental property of the Blessings themselves? They are created the same way all other hemalurgic spikes are Blessing of Potency is an iron spike which steals strength. Blessing of Stability is a zinc spike which steals emotional fortitude. The kandra do have some odd effects with Hemalurgy as that is what grants them sentience. Quote ZAS (CHAOS) Got another one. Why do Kandra need two spikes to have a blessing and to become sentient? BRANDON SANDERSON It is just the nature of how Hemalurgy works. More spikes are capable of changing form and body more, and I didn’t feel that one spike was viable for the alterations that are made to their nature. That part about the Blessing's being a pair was something I was already kind of aware of, but thanks for the clarification.
