Help with things I missed

As we get closer to oathbringer I am getting more worried about many details in the books I missed details that others here have long since 'canonized' and deemed obvious and so I send out this plea for help to collect info on:

1) why does everyone know the herelds are crazy was that stated indisputedly in the books or from wob? Also what else do we know about their madness?

2)what do we know about Gavilar... have we been told exactly what he was trying to do with the pars he si before his assasination? What ever info gavilar had about oarshendi do we know how he got it? And what exactly was his telationship with amaram?

3) last but not least what do we know about seethe. Everyone seems to know more about him than me/understand him better. I feel like I failed a reading comprehension class(or maybe just read to darned fast) because I found his character confusing incoherent which made reading his chapters meaningless to me.... so ya'al gotta humor me and do some explaining; do we know what it even means to be truth less? Was he actually bound to that rock thing to kill or just plain psycho? Wait if he's psycho was that something he became while truthless or was he psycho from the beginning even b4 he did the stuff which made him truthless? Come to think of it what did he do? Did anyone actually follow all the chapters to trace his full sequence of owners(I read too fast and lazy)? What he szeths situation at end of wor ? Oh and last but not least... what the heck do we know about the shin people anyways?

p.s. I know ranting about Seth who seems to be a popular character will not really be too popular but can please show me a little ❤️❤️ Cuz I'm just a poor fan overwhelmed by Brandon's emense work and happen to be stuck currently as a lowly spearman!

I'm not sure if you saw my response to your same post on the Oathbringer sub forum but I'll post it here in case. You should hide one of your posts rather than having two going :)

INTERVIEW: Dec 3rd, 2016

Little City Books-AU Tour (Paraphrased)

CCQ

Did Ishar intentionally deceive Nalan or does Ishar have bad info that he passed on?

BRANDON SANDERSON

Yes and no. All of the heralds are insane.

CCQ

So I clarified the question to being did Ishar know that he was lying to Nalan

BRANDON SANDERSON

got a RAFO but he added something that seemed to mean that Ishar could perhaps see the future and that each insanity was unique and that uniqueness played a part in the info. Not really sure on the last part.

We do but it's a spoiler for Oathbringer from the prologue.

He was trying to bring back the Voidbringers by restoring the old Parshendi forms. He and Amaram were both in the same secret society

Reddit AMA 2011 (Verbatim)

Was Vallano, Szeth's grandfather, also a Truthless? And if not, what did he do to disgrace the Shin?

BRANDON SANDERSON

No, Vallano was not Truthless.

Szeth was a very respected member of his society, once. There are clues to what happened in his story, but you won't hear it in full until he gets his book. (Which will include his flashbacks.)

Szeth's oathstone did not magically bind him (I can't find the WoB right now), he just bound himself by his misguided sense of honor. He had I think 10 owners or so but we weren't told quite a few. At the end of WoR he is revived with a healing fabrial and appears in Edgedancer.

:)

Edit - sorry about weird formatting, didn't quite copy over properly

I actually never meant to post it twice I wanted it to be in storm light forum cuz it will get more veiws and hopefully more responses. It only ended up on oathbringer spoiler board by accident... I couldn't figure out how to delete ut(I'm relatively new around here) what do I do to get rid of it?

Yeah I figured, that's sound reasoning, that's why i wanted to move my answer here :)

On the other post just go to the bottom, click options and hide, I think

I'll expand a bit on Extesian's Szeth answer since he is one of my favorites. First, I will always remember him fondly as he was the most badass character to appear, and introduce us in the prologue to what SA had in store for us. Then, he is still a very badass character all through the books we have seen even after other characters were introduced :P. The idea of a character on exile away from your people, yearning to come back but unable to is something which I also find quite fascinating. The fact that he is being punished for something raises the question of what was his crime. One of his most impressive attributes is his sense of honor. That he hates what he does but does it anyway, as it is what his  laws state he must do to do is another. Some say he is the most despicable characer in SA, others that he is the most honorable. I am on the second boat. He is also our only doorway to the shin people, which by themselves are fascinating, considering they are utterly different from any other roshar society or even landscape. What they are doing with the Herald's Honorblades just makes the Shin questions all the more burning. Then, to cap it off for finding Szeth interesting

p.s. should my spoiler be in spoiler tags or is it ok to put it out of it in SA forum?

He's both. Honorable doesn't mean good.

Edit: and yeah. Szeth is an amazing character. The Prologue hooked me on the series right away, and I always enjoy reading Szeth's PoV.
