Soujiro he/him Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 Hello! Very happy to be able to create an account on this forum! I've been itching to do it for the last couple of years that it has taken me to read all the Cosmere books. Now that I'm done I've burned through the wiki learning about the Cosmere and everything related to it. Thus I'm now able to not spoil myself from anything canonical. Anyhow, I have been reading and listening (on the podcast) people talking about Dragonsteel. I've googled a bit and searched the forums and wiki but I can't seem to find any kind of actual copy of it. Is there a way to get a hold of it other than contacting the staff on Brandon's site? If this is not allowed or anything let me know, or just delete the thread. Thank you in advance! 1
Ammanas Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 (edited) The only way to get copy is to put a hold on it at the BYU library. It was Brandon's big project/Master Thesis or something when he was a student. There is a long list of people on the hold list at the moment. Edit: I was so focused on the question I forgot to welcome you to the board! Glad the have you here! Edited August 4, 2017 by Ammanas 1

Not being from the US can I request a copy? Do I have to be a studend of BYU?

A resident of Utah could answer that better than I could. I believe you have to either go to the university or live in the area and have a library that it part of the local sharing system that exists among them (in Denver, Colorado we call our system Prospector). Perhaps someone in Utah could verify or correct this information? 1
Snipexe he/him Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 (edited) I live in Provo, and from what I can tell, you have to be a member of the library, (and pay a yearly fee) in order to get a book there, and you have to go and check it out in person. The library's website plus some other links: https://lib.byu.edu https://lib.byu.edu/about/checkout-privileges/ https://lib.byu.edu/about/checkout-privileges/other-library-patrons/ Edited August 5, 2017 by snipexe 1
Calderis he/him Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 As far as I know, Dragonsteel is non canon, and has been heavily canabalized for the published books. The Shattered Plains were a major part of it. Brandon has plans to write a version of it that will be a series telling the events leading up to (and including?) the Shattering. The few people who have read it, don't talk about it here. I don't think it's something that, at this point, is going to give any new Cosmere knowledge. 2
