I was going through the stormlight wiki when I noticed something odd, it stated no spren exist in shinovar, this got me thinking, aren't spren splinters of honor, cultivation and sometimes odium? So why don't cultivation spren exist in shinovar, the supposed haven of Cultivation?

(I'm sure this has been discussed before, however I couldn't find any threads dealing with this point specifically)

Why do you think Shinovar is a haven of Cultivation?

It's earthlike in its appearance. The rest of Roshar, though alien seeming, is a very lush environment. Cultivation's influence is prevalent throughout Roshar, and we already know of a Shardpool that is likely hers in the horneater peaks.

Okay, cool. And then, just one more, shouldn't the rest of Roshar be more Earth-like, more Shinovar-like, kind of, with Cultivation on Roshar?

You are mistakenly assuming that Cultivation means Earth-like flora and fauna. Roshar is very bountiful and like it's not a barren land. Roshar is very....

Thriving?

It's thriving. Yeah, it just has a different ecology. You're mistakenly assuming that our ecology is the only sort that can be bountiful.

@StormblessDave I was with you there - I assumed it was at least an enclave of cultivation's power (not exclusively where it was felt but more the center of the power (bit like Luthadel in the Lord Rulers day). but that's because the the Storms aren't felt there - so that the more benign environment allows "lazy" grass etc. So Honor's presence (the highstorms/stormfather splinter) was felt in the stormy areas but less prominent in cultivations area.

No idea if the everstorm would hit Shinovar and destroy all the grass etc... waiting to find out in the new book.

I kind off assume it wont though for the same reason - Cultivation is still alive and that's her stronghold..... am i totally wrong then @Calderis?

The best (in my opinion) theory I've seen for this blames the highstorms.

Imagine the Physical and Cognitive Realms stacked on top of each other. As the highstorms roll over the landscape, it presses them together and sort of erodes the barriers between.

So the theory goes that in Shinovar, where the storms are weakest, the barriers between the two Realms are strongest. So it's not that there aren't spren there, it's just so much harder to attract them, and for them to manifest visually, that you can't see them.

Do we know if no spren are in Shinovar or if spren are just not visible there?   Either way I would guess something is going on in shadesmar there.

I've always been a little confused about the Shin revering the spirits of stones, among sun and stars. On Roshar spirit should translate to spren, but if there are no spren in Shinovar what are the spirits?

I think it's probable that only large and powerful spren can manifest in Shinovar. I think at one point Szeth notes that the spirits of the stones promised that he was truthless. So if they are spren they are sapient and able to communicate in the physical realm.

Could be a different kind of spren. Dalinar has a vision of the past showing something that could easily fit the description of a stone spirit, and have motive to tell Szeth he is truthless.
