Spoiler The arbiters who claimed to have a hatred of forgers and declared it unholy and an abomination were willing to compromise themselves by using it to retain power. however... Spoiler oddly this phenomenon of hypocrisy exists in Elantris when Hrathan is willing to go to similar measures by "transforming" himself into an Elantrian. Now these cases could be just hypocrisy at work however the fact that they are on the same planet and in the case of ES no real reason is stated for the hatred I am inclined to think that there is something else at play here. Calderis he/him Posted July 30, 2017 Report Share Posted July 30, 2017 Eh. I don't think the situations are the same same. I also don't think they require anything beyond human nature. The Arbiters are politicians afraid of losing their power. Corruption and covert lying and rule breaking is pretty much part for the course. In the case of Hrathen, He didn't actually change. It was an intentional deception to try and enact his agenda. He knew the change wasn't permanent.
