I believe it is. Brandon is very into the etymology of his names. (Check out some of my other posts for proof.) Ashyn is one letter off of Ashlyn a girls name which means vision or dream in Irish. The name comes from the word Aisling (can also be spelled Aishling ;) no jokes on that H) this is taken from wikipedia

In the aisling, Ireland ... laments the current state of the Irish people and predicts an imminent revival of their fortunes, usually linked to the return of the Roman CatholicHouse of Stuart to the thrones of Britain and Ireland. Check it out!

Additionally, Braize sounds like Braise which makes sense too.

We don't know for sure, but I like to think that Braize is actually the Tranquiline Halls (taken over by Odium of course).

I am lead to believe this because in the books it always talks about people needing to "take back" the Tranquiline Halls.

Also, (AU Spoiler)

Khriss seems to believe that Braize is home to Cognitive Shadows as well as Odium's spren. This means that it could be very true that people go there to fight if they die, similar to what happens to the Heralds after a Desolation.

Interesting thought but then Roshar could not be between them but Halls could also meant to be spiritual realm. And couldn't Khriss by Cognitive Shadows mean just Heralds alone?

Well, picking out ten Heralds in an entire planet could be tough. Can you refresh me on what you mean by "between"? I'm not sure I've heard that before.

From coppermind wiki but I thought I read something like that in WoK (I think one of Shallan chapters) but you have take my word with pinch of salt, or copper ;)

The Tranquiline Halls, where mankind used to reside, is paradise. The Voidbringers cast mankind down to Roshar, which exists in between the Halls and Damnation.

IIRC, the legends speak of humanity being cast 'down' from the Halls to Roshar, and the Voidbringers then trying to drag them 'down' to Damnation. That could indicate a progression through the Solar System; Ashyn, closest to the sun, would be the highest, and then Roshar is in the middle, and Braize would be viewed as the lowest. It seems like it's up Brandon's alley to have hell be cold, not hot. (Ashyn is hot, lots of lava everywhere, but it appears to have been destroyed in some sort of cataclysm, with only floating cities surviving.)

Yup, he said it much better, besides where else would be God of hatred than in Hell? But coppermind Wiki sais that Voidbringers were cast down to heaven and Heralds followed to fotce them out of  heaven, so that goes for theory that Braize is Tranquiline Halls but what about damnation? Does it means that they are the same place.

QUESTION

So there are two other planets in the Roshar system, are they the Tranquiline Halls and Damnation that you mentioned in The Way of Kings?

BRANDON SANDERSON

(After consideration) There has been in the past knowledge of other planets in the system and that has indeed influenced the mythology of the world.

QUESTION

Would Ashyn/Braize share the 10-centric numerology of Roshar?

BRANDON SANDERSON

Yes 10-centric is for the entire Rosharian planetary system...wait Braize is 9-centric

These two WOBs make me think Ashyn is more likely the Tranquline Halls, as it shared the same base 10 numerology, implying the same Shard influence. Braize being nine could either be a corruption of the base ten, or a sign that it is not the halls to begin with.

I always have thought that the Tranqueline Halls was the planet Yolen. It was the origin of all of humanity in the cosmere and is the cosmere standard for the creation of planets and gravity.

This has been debated for a long time. I'm of the opinion that either planet could be the Tranquiline Halls, after which it then later became Damnation. However given that first WoB Teknopathic mentioned, the Rosharans/Vorin Church later attribute Damnation to Braize instead to make a distinction (and avoid any confusion in doctrine). Similar to how Nalthians gave different names to Zahel because they couldn't quite conflate why he would do what he did

Interesting idea, Shadowthrone. I wonder if there is WoB somewhere about Yolen being visited or talked about.

Yolen is confirmed not to be the Halls.
