Copper compounding

What does copper compounding do? I don't think it's actually been mentioned, so if it hasn't feel free to speculate.

Since copper stores memories that will then no longer for in your brain, might burning a coppermind permanently engrave them in your mind so you remember them perfectly but don't have to forget them temporarily to preserve them? Would those memories be corruptible by Ruin?
