Theory: Spren and Shardblades

Hello, I just noticed in the comments for the chapter release yesterday that several individuals proposed that spren such as Syl eventually become "the soul" for lack of a better word of their Radiant's shard blade.  I am opening this topic for discussion about this theory.  I personally disagree with the theory.  One argument against the theory comes from Dalinar's vision in chapter three of WoR.  I am of the opinion that the knight is conversing with his/her spren when seen speaking with nobody, and therefore it would follow that the knight still had a spren while possessing a shardblade and shardplate.

The second point I would make is from the abandoning of the Plate and Blades at Feverstone Keep.  Under the assumption that the spren become the Blades somehow, then A) the assumed process involves the spren, but after the process is complete the spren is no longer essential, otherwise the Blades would have ceased to function, as it is assumed that spren died when the Nahel bonds were broken B) this also opens the question of what happens when a Knight Radiant dies, as their plate and blade would remain.  If death broke the Nahel bond, the spren would then die, and there should therefore be many more Plate and Blade combinations.  If the Plate and Blade were passed down, then new Knight's Radiant wouldn't have to have their spren turn into Blades/Plate.  So overall, it seems to be a very unlikely event that a bonded spren becomes a Shardblade.

I don't believe we have seen different shard instruments aside from the relatively similarly designed blades, and the plate.

It brings up another question though, particularly because of Andolin talking to his blade, and particularly because I just read the theory on gemstones/fabrials and all I can think about are gemstones.

Someone smarter than me, could you remind me whether or not spren can be captured in a gemstone? If so - could something of an interesting conclusion be drawn from Syl hating shardblades, Andolin crushing the gemstone from Renarin's (now) blade, and something happened causing a bunch of Spren to die off way back when?

That is all terribly baseless, but intriguing.

Edit: As I'm on the fence still about Szeth's blade being an honorblade - I hate to even ask, but is his blade described as having a gemstone?

We have WoB on this:

Q: Is there any ramifications to the holder of a shard blade for using a blade in a manner that it wasn't intended?

A: Depends on the type of Shardblade. (You have seen three different kinds in TWoK.) For most, no. For some, most certainly.

Spren are captured in gemstones, and this is what creates fabrials.

As to the spren dying, all we have is rather baseless speculation. I'm a fan of it being a result of spren relying on humanity to support them (by thinking strongly of them), and the betrayal of the Radiants caused notions of honor and integrity to go right out the window, and this killed the spren. Like, if there were no more fires on Roshar, and every human forgot about fire, I'd anticipate every single flamespren dying. This might be what happened due to the Recreance.

Fair enough :) I flail about and dish out baseless speculation like mad until someone sets me right or adds to it :D (thus creating baseful speculation)

However the WoB concerning Shardblades being used other than as directed - it makes me think of cleaning the muck off of boots, or making new doors or the like, not forming it into a spear, dagger etc. But with some paracord and a good bo staff borrowed from Napoleon Dynamite, Kal could fashion himself a rather dangerous and massive spear :3
