Farnsworth Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 When I ordered my leatherbound Mistborn (just came today) I asked Brandon whether Aagal Uch and Aagal Nod — the two gas giants in the Scadrian system — ever came into the story. He RAFOed it. How can you RAFO a question like that? It makes no sense. RAFOing can imply that something interesting is going on with what you are asking about. But if something interesting is going on with the planets, that would mean that the planets do come into the story. So why didn't he just say yes? Do they only partially come into the story? Does he not want people to focus on it? Is he unsure of the answer? If the answer had been "no", he would probably have just said no. So I think the RAFO means a yes. But if that's what he meant, then why didn't he say it? I don't get it! 1
A Budgie she/her Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Yeah, or he couldn't be bothered asking, or possibly he hadn't decided yet.
Pagerunner he/him Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Dude, you're way overthinking it. If they will be important, you'll find out when you finally read it. If they're not, you'll find out once you've read the very last Mistborn. You asked a question about a future story... that's, like, a textbook Read and Find Out! 2
Farnsworth Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 Maybe you're right, I just like to hope that there is some secret meaning behind it. I really want to know! I guess I should stop looking angrily at the RAFO page and just read the book. I'm way overdue for a Final Empire re-read!
Landis963 he/him Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Also, a major part of the Cosmere is the 4th Era of Mistborn, which also happens to be a space opera (this has been WoBed multiple times). Aagals Uch and Nod probably serve as sources for things necessary for sublight space travel, such as Helium-3. In which case they would become very important should the Scadrian system come under threat, from Shard and world alike.
Kaymyth she/her Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Facts about RAFOs: 1. Sometimes they are about major spoilers on things he doesn't want to reveal yet. 2. Sometimes they are about things he hasn't actually decided yet. 3. Sometimes he trolls us. 2
