Assassin in Burgundy he/him Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Recently I was playing an MMO at my friend's house. For those who don't know, it's basically a video game where multiple people play on the same map at one time. And so that got me thinking. If I was burning bendalloy, how would that affect the game? Would other players slow down or would my character get really twitchy or something? I don't entirely know how online games work, and help would be much appreciated.
Voidus Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 It'd probably just crash the computer you were playing on as it sped up but wasn't getting enough power to run at those speeds. Other than that probably just lots of lag.
Green Hoodie Mistborn he/him Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I'd think you'd see a bunch of lag on your end that might make the local copy of the game time or error out.
Rasarr she/her Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Provided that nothing wonky happens when the data from your computer leaves the speed bubble for the game's server (such as sudden loss of energy, the signal getting completely scrambled, that kind of thing), the signal slows down to "real world" speed upon leaving the bubble, so the other players probably wouldn't see the difference while you'd get a tremendous log. Another possibility (which I'm not certain about): with how quickly the computer would be sending signals to the "real time" part of your Internet cable, the server might interpret the binary code as a row of "11111111111..." and would error out.
