Any fans?

I actually feel guilty calling myself a fan, honestly; I haven't started the anime yet.

I recently picked up the English version of the Visual Novel, however, and I've been loving it. I...might have gushed a little over into people in PM's. Sorry about that; hopefully having a topic means that my random gushing will stop.

Anyway... Steins;Gate. Any fans? Anyone seen it, or read it, or interested in talking about it?

Yup, it's good. I've only seen the anime.

As Spoolofwhool says, it has a slow start, but it's one of those shows where the beginning gets retroactively better as you get farther (further?) in.

IT IS SOOOOO GOOD .flat out my favorite anime of all time.
(maybe i am a little biased ,being a physics student  )  yeah it is kinda slow in the start but the slice of life compoment makes it enjoyable.

I'm hoping to start watching it in afew days, once I finish the game. Glad to bear it lives up  to the hype.

I definitely expect a slow start. Obviously, I'll be comparing it to the VN, but all the science and slice of life front-loaded made me care about the characters involved, so...

I'm definitely in the minority with my opinion...I think it's average, or just slightly above average. It was incredibly slow at the start, and my interest really only grew in the last 2-3 episodes. The ending was great but I'm just not sure it was worth crawling through the first part to get to it. I think my biggest problem was that I didn't particularly like the characters, and that's unfortunate in an anime where some episodes focus entirely on the characters conversing.

However, this was my opinion of it back when I watched it about 5-6 years ago. I think i may give it a rewatch to see if my opinion changes. I mean, can 99.9% of the populace really be wrong about it?

If you didn't like the characters, I think that's your answer right there, and I'm not sure if a rewatch would change that.  (Though, perhaps Okabe works better on rewatch, once you get what his deal is and you don't spend the first few episodes bewildered)  I think the drama of the second half really only works if you've got an emotional attachment to the characters, built in the first half.  So I prefer to call the first half "character-driven", not "slow", because I think the first half is laying some pretty important groundwork.
