Extremely Crackpot Theory: The Aimians had gemhearts

The Aimians have near mythical status and are basically extinct at this point. There is no evidence to support this at all, but maybe their extinction is related to being hunted down for their hearts? With the scouring of Aimia, we know the creatures of this land were "scoured" for gemhearts.

Gonna make this theory even more crackpot from here...

What if the Aimians are similar to spellcasters? Gemhearts can hold stormlight, and their physiology allows them to create tattoos on their bodies. We know a fabrial-gem's power can be determined by the, invisible, pattern of Stormlight that gets filtered through the gemstone. Perhaps the tattoos they create could be imbued with their natural stores of stormlight, which would allow them to attract and ask spren to perform a task. And maybe it's just me, but fabrials always felt wrong to me in the way they cage spren. Furthermore, the one Aimian we know, Axies the Collector, is basically obssesed with spren, which could be related to his race's affinity for spren.  So, yeah...there is no evidence for this theory, but it was just a random thought I had today.

It would certainly help explain why the heck Aimia was scoured in the first place. They seem to have the ability to heal at an accelerated rate to some extent, which, in the cosmere, typically requires investiture. I like the theory, I'd rank it at least a little above "crackpot."

I feel like if anyone is going to have a gemheart it is going to be the Listeners/Parshendi. Not to say that Aimians would not as those two are the only native sentient races to Roshar apparently. The problem is that I feel like if parshmen had gemhearts, then someone would have figured it out by now and they would in no way let the other parshmen handle their own dead.

I believe they're one of the off shoot races from combined human and parshendi DNA  (SDNA?) like herdazians. I believe there's an old WoB that states that humans and parshendi can't breed though, so how Aimians were created is technically a mystery. I'd agree that if Aimians have gem hearts, parshendi would probably have them as well...disecting corpses is pretty unpopular outside technologically advanced societies though, so maybe no one noticed that parshendi have gem hearts, I mean, why would you disect a slave?

Anatomy lessons for surgeons.

Yes, it's probably unpopular.  But it *does* happen because surgeons-in-training need to practice their craft on *something* before they get their first live patient.

I suppose there is a point there though. Especially ardents, who I believe would be the majority of surgeons (if I understand the society correctly) would likely oppose such experimentation. And we have seen the response that Lirin got to necessary surgery.

But I suppose this raises the question of whether Aimians would be equally likely to not be experimented on for the same reasons.
