Is there away that as a user we can have it not show certain parts of the forums? For me for example I'm not a fan of the RP boards and hate seeing all the updates for them when I go to view new content. I know it's a trivial thing but just curious if it's in the realm of possibilities.

There does not seem to be a way to do that.

I think what you might be able to do, though, is simply click the forum marker on the RP section. By doing that, you've marked all those posts as read, and maybe they will not appear in View New Content. Kind of a heavy-handed fix, but at least that's something.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

Even doing that they still show up in the list for view new content. Oh well, not a huge thing. Just more of a question. Thanks Chaos.

Dang, that's too bad. I was hoping it would've worked. That does make the View New Content feature a little less useful, in my opinion.

Go here and change Search Settings to the other option. (source)

EDIT: this works in combination with what Eric suggested.

It looks like there is a way but a feature is turned off. It looks like you can subscribe to certain forums and then it will only show notifications for those. setting

To subscribe to a forum go to it (eg: Site News) and click the "transmit_blue.png Watch Forum" button next to the new post button.

I think I have discovered a way to do this, Spencer. You'll have to use my strategy of clicking the forum marker to mark it as read, but I think this is going to work.

Go to your profile, and make sure you're in the Settings tab. In General Settings, look to the last option. It will be called Search Settings, and it says "View New Content Method". Mine was set as "Show me all content since my last visit" but the other option is "Show me all content that I have not read." So, switch it to that option.

If my hunch is right, then you can mark a forum as Read. Now because you've read those posts, they shouldn't appear in the View New Content. In theory.

Tell me if that actually worked for you.

EDIT: I tried it, and I don't think it worked, but let me see your results.

Doesn't seem to work. It would be nice if there was an option to only display new content from forums which are "Watched", but hardly the end of the world if not.

Dang, I was so hopeful for that strategy. Thanks though.

Meh, it had a link in it, and it takes a lot of effort to click a link :P

actually, it does work....I havent had much chance to test it, since this is the only thread that is getting action since I last 'marked all as read' but it seems to work...

Maybe it's a cookie thing and we need to close out the browser after changing that setting.

I think it needs a little encouragement to actually set, since I changed it when I read that post and didnt change it back, but I went back to check it today and it was on the default...I changed it just then and it works...

heh

I've done some tests and it appears to be working.
