Kaladin

I once again had the amazing @venamis over on Instagram do a SA commission this time of Kaladin. Tne character is done as the way I see in my mind's eye. I know some people will say he his not dark enough but I love this rendition of the character. The next character will have them do is Adolin and then probably Shallan.

Thanks guys the artist did a really good job he's a cool guy.  I really felt that the artist @venamis  can do amazing work with the  SA characters. Can't wait to have him do a Adolin

Am I going loopy or is the face done in a different style than the rest? Almost looks like he photoshopped or traced over somebody's face.

(probably someone I would recognize if I was ever in possession of such a thing as a clue)

I will have Adolin in his military uniform. I love uniforms. Andd then him in full shardplate with him tlaking to his shardblade.

Remember I am not thw artist I just pay the artis to do the characters. Adolin will be in both full uniform and also in full shardplate.  Shallan will be in a I  think a green dress  with patyern on the dress. But I want him to stand out on the dress so I may ask the artist to do pattern as if he is glowing on the dress, red heads look so good in green (well at least my wife who is  a redhead looks amazing in green)  I also whould like to have one of Shallan glowing whem using stormlight holding pattern as a shardblade. But I realy dont knkw what Pattern as a shrdblade should look like. Let me know what you think the shardblade should look like.

One thing that annoys me slightly is that in other drawings Syl looks out of place, a bit random. In this one the artist has managed to include Syl without having her just being a random glowing object.

Yea Syl is one of my favorite characters and really wanted her to be shown well in the peace. I Have also thought about having the artist do a Syl peace wirh her in all the different things she has been.  I like the idea of Amanda Seinfield as her.

@maxal  Next up is Adolin but what you think of this. For Adolin I want the artist  to do him in his uniform and then shardplate with him talking to the blade.

I like him. In fact, he is quite good. The artist even made him handsome  I am not sure the uniform is right: I am pretty sure Captain's uniform doesn't have knots on the shoulder, but apart from this detail he's pretty solid.

I saw your other posts: I can't wait to how your artist imagine Adolin. I do not believe I ever saw any art featuring Adolin talking to his Blade...

There are a couple of times early in WoR where established soldiers don't call Kaladin Sir, then (IIRC) he notes them glancing at the knots on his shoulders before adding the honorific. Of course, I am now doubting myself... Perhaps it was just an insignia... Though given the prevalence of varying knots of varying colours of rope to denote rank in most other places (e.g. Adolins noted as gold, when protecting the courtesan, again IIRC), it seems likely the Captains uniform (previously only worn by lighteyes) would have them too.

You're not mistaken, it happens. 

 

Also overall I don't mind this Kal. He's a little too clean and too...noble? 

To me Kal should lool like a killer, it's not what he is, but it is how he is perceived and perhaps more importantly hos he sees himself. There should be a hardness, a grim anger and a vulnerability.

Eh, to me he does look like a killer.  Not every killer looks like Jason Statham.

Well, I didn't say they did  so I'd guess we'll have to agree to disagree. 

To clarify, I think Statham does a better conman than killer.

Happy you love it. The guy that did it is cool as hell. I am going to try and have hime do all if the main characters and then I really want him to do Rock and so e guys from bridge 4. But it takes a while bc I have to save up the extra cash. I would also love to have him do war and storm form of the Parshendi beacuse there in next to no Parshindie art out there.

On page 317 of the Kindle version, Jenet the stable master says "Of course. I keep looking at those captain's knots on your shoulder, but--" That is just one example, but it's the first one I found. 

I just looked up the description of the uniforms. I wanted to see where the insignia was placed because I thought the placement seemed off. However, it says that the insignia was on the shoulder, so @venamis  got that right. The description of Kaladin's captain's uniform is as follows: "It included a blue waistcoat and a double-breasted longcoat, the lining white, the buttons of silver. The longcoat was meant to hang open, despite the rows of buttons down each side." The description of the standard uniforms mentions that the pants (stiff trousers) were blue, and the book describes the uniforms as being "cobalt blue." Overall, The Artist  did a really good job, even if he/she did get the color of the pants wrong. That, and the boots being dark brown instead of black. I still prefer the picture of Kaladin on the cover of the book, but that is more a stylistic preference.
