Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor
I am currently re reading WOR and just read the part where the bridge collapses over the chasm and Kaladin falls. The question I have (sorry if this has been asked before) is why did Syl "die" at this point? I know that Kaladin had made two contradicting promises and Syl had been fading prior to this event but it seems weird to me that she "died" when he tried to save others. It seems like his actions should have helped stabilize her a little instead of pushing her over the edge. The thought that I had was that since she had told him to do what he felt was right/he needed to do and his feelings went against his oaths, this act just drove a larger wedge between them. I still am not sure if I buy my own thought on this so what do you guys think?
Jondesu
My impression is that the bond was strained nearly to the breaking point, and when he tried to draw in a lot of Stormlight to save himself and the others, it was too much for the weakened bond to sustain, and while he managed just enough to save himself, the bond snapped like a rope with too much weight on it. Tariniel
There is a post on this exact topic here. It follows much along the lines of what @Jondesu mentioned
