Hi everyone,
I'm brand new to the Cosmere, and i'm absolutely enjoying myself! Picked up Way of Kings back on the 24th of September and moved right into Words of Radiance. I was so impressed that I am now almost halfway into the first Mistborn book and still feeling the Sanderson flowing through my veins. Stormlight Archive has got to be one of THE coolest things I've ever experienced in any form of media. Mistborn has been enjoyable so far as well and I hear that it improves as it goes on, so things only look to keep getting better from here!
I had never heard of Brandon Sanderson until that fateful morning of September 24. I went to the local bookstore to find a copy of A Knight of Westeros (which I also purchased that day but haven't touched yet.) Fresh off of ASOIAF, I was craving more Martin and devouring everything Westeros related. Anyways, right in front of GRRMs entire shelf of copies of various ASOIAF books, was a discarded copy of Way of Kings. I found myself reading the cover and then the first few pages, and decided that I would have to skip on the food court on the way out of the mall.
I started reading WoK that night and have managed to stay just ahead of running out of more Sanderson to read. I've got Elantris, Warbreaker, and the next 3 Mistborn books arriving by Monday, w/ Arcanum Unbounded on Pre-order (Only $18.99 w/ Prime) through Amazon. My question to you, Shardbearers, is where I should go from the end of the first Mistborn book? I don't mind jumping to something else as long as it ends reasonably without the need for an immediate follow up like Stormlight was. Pleasantly surprised as well to see that the next Stormlight book is as far along as it is.

So yea, lots of rambling, but I figure that's what everyone is here for, right?

Hiya! I'm bleeder. I wear vests and play guitar and I also give out PDFs! Have you read Warbreaker

Welcome to the Shard. We try to have intelligent conversations about Brandon and stuff, but usually end up veering off into topics such as baking, and each other's day-to-day issues.

Hey, speaking of baking, if you are offered cookies, do not accept the cookies. This is for your own good.

Anyway, welcome!

Hi, Bleeder! I have not read Warbreaker, but I have it coming somewhere in the mail right now. I've been gathering that it has some easter egg Stormlight tidbit stuff, and think it might be my next stop after The Final Empire.

I really really like cookies and don't get them very often at home.... I may be tempted to try them if I get cornered.

Also , SPOILER

Spoiler

Jasnah!? What the rust?!

Haha I remember when I picked up way of kings for the first time. I almost crashed my car reading while driving home.

Honestly, after reading the first mistborn book, you will desperately need more mistborn. However, when you have finished those I would highly recommend Elantris as a phenomenal book without a massive commitment. @AngelEy3

Let's see... so far my favorite Sanderson (from my limited pool) has been WoR, but my favorite book I've ever read was probably The Stand. I was 14 though and thought I was being edgy by reading books my mother didn't approve of, so that's probably mostly member berries on my part. I remember being in the first part of WoR and thinking to myself, "This Wit guy is starting to seem a lot like Flagg."

Thanks for the link, i'll check it out today!

Yea, haha, I may have burnt a pizza or three making my way through Stormlight so far. Going to finish The Final Empire tonight at work, and depending on how I feel about the ending, I'll either finish the trilogy or jump over to Elantris I think. I get about 5 hours a night at work of pure downtime, so most of my best reading gets done on the clock, which is amazing.

Wit's name is Hoid, by the way. Keep that in mind as you read the rest of the serieses

Mistborn was my favorite. Reading to the end of the trilogy is definitely worth it.

Edit: Might I ask what you do for a living? I may want to sign up :P

I figured out the Wit/Hoid persona sometime during WoR, and was very pleasantly surprised by his appearance as Kelsier's informant.

I've got maybe 50 pages left in The Final Empire, but I needed a short breather after what just happened, and came to check out the forums. When I'm done here, I'll finish it up, and then on to Well of Ascension which has been impatiently waiting in my bag for a few extra days than I had wanted.

You may ask, lol. I work for a private group home for developmentally disabled adults about 2 miles from my house. I'm overnight awake staff, and aside from making breakfast (which I get to also eat) my main responsibility is being available in case of emergency. The pay isn't spectacular, but it's a couple dollars above state minimum, fulfilling, and most of all I get to read (or do whatever, but mostly books)  almost all night long.

Edit: that's how I was able to burn through both Stormlight books in under 2 weeks. Otherwise that's an insane amount of free time to be taking up.

2nd edit: Finished The Final Empire... That was amazing. There really always is another secret!

He makes quite a few more cameos in the other books. At some point, he'll have a series of his own called Dragonsteel. A very rough draft of the first one is on file in the BYU library, since Brandon wrote it as his thesis, I belive

Well of Ascension is good. I personally prefer the other 2, but it's still a phenomenal book that easily makes my top 7 list.

Sounds like a good job! You get to help other people, and the benifits are quite enticing. :P

Ah, yeah. That makes sense. I read them over the summer last year, I belive, and they took me awhile even with virtually unlimited free time

Glad you liked it! There is indeed :D

Also, are you aware of the Cosmere? I'd be happy to help explain it, if you want

I think I understand that each set of stories takes place on different planets essentially in the same galaxy? I should have most of the Cosmere titles in my possession by the end of the month. I'm also aware that I screwed up the chronological order by starting on Stormlight, and then moving backwards to Mistborn. I intend on finishing the Mistborn trilogy before moving on from there. Any suggestion on what to read after that? My choices at this time would be between Elantris, Warbreaker, and Alloy of Law. I kind of went crazy ordering Sanderson books when I was about halfway through WoR, and they've been slowly trickling in.

When you finish Mistborn, go ahead and start on Alloy of Law, as it is a continuation of the Mistborn saga. I highly recommend it.

*grins* I finished both of them in a week with about 3 hours to spare. Perks of having pretty much nothing else to do all day.

I finished them in 3 days over the summer

Granted, I spent 8 hours in a car during that time

Not exactly the same galaxy, but the same smallish universe. I'd suggest reading Warbreaker next to give your wallet some time to recover, since it's free online. Alternately, you can do as bleeder suggested and start Mistborn Era 2 so you remember the powers and world building better. I generally try to have people read Warbreaker before WoR and Elantris before Secret History, but those are the only 2 things I would consider important, and even then they're optional. It's really up to you, read them however you'd like to.

Edit: Just understood you meant you already had the Mistborn books coming in. Read those, then :P

It's been a wild ride so far that's for sure.

That is truly impressive. Have an upvote on me:D

I'm leaning towards just continuing with Mistborn, but I also kind of want to read Warbreaker before Arcanum Unbounded releases next month. I'm really looking forward to Edgedancer.

I gave my little brother WoK and WoR to read and told him how awesome it was but he's barely scratched the Prologue. Too busy playing LoL all day.

Even if you want to talk about LotR, go right ahead! I've a major LotR fan, and there are more than a few others out there. Nobody here cares if you go seriously off-topic; some conversations here have some pretty crazy tangents: dogs, discussions about the latest My Little Pony characters, etc. I think you'll fit right in.

The updates are fun. They remind me of when I was reading the series :P

Well, try not to intentionally derail other people's threads. You can start your own, if you want to have a specific conversation. If it's actually somewhat relevant, though, go right ahead :)

I can very much relate. My life is a constant struggle to convert my friends and family. So far, I've made 6 people read Mistborn, 2 of whom read Stormlight afterwards. This is after about a year and a half of effort. I've lost count of how many I've tried to convince :P

Got any Junior Mints? They're my favorite. Curious though... Is the cookie thing an inside forum joke thing or possibly from a book passage I haven't read yet? Just wondering if I'll eventually figure it out or if I have to be let in, lol.
