Hey! I've been trying to sign up on the forum for a while, but the confirmation email never arrived. It never did turn up — I ended up using an old email and a different username. It worked, thankfully.

I had a blast reading the terms of use.

You agree that the Administrator known as Rubix is hereby the owner of your immortal soul and that he will likely be selling it sometime next week for a bagel. If, however, when you press the create account button below you have a shoe on your head and are yodeling (poorly, of course), this hostile takeover shall be considered null and void.

Though I recently discovered Brandon Sanderson's work (half a year ago), I hope that I can get to know the community better.

Also, would anyone mind explaining the abbreviations?

Ah, abbreviations. When I first got on the forums this was the first question I asked. We need to make a comprehensive dictionary!

TLR: The Lord Ruler

WoB: Word of Brandon

TWG: TimeWaster's Guide (the old forum)

RAFO: Read And Find Out

PAFO: Play And Find Out (from Sanderson Elimination)

...and then all the book names, i.e.

TFE - The Final Empire

TWoA - The Well of Ascension

THoA (or just HoA) - The Hero of Ages

TAoL (or just AoL) - The Alloy of Law

SoS (actually I've never seen this used) - Shadows of Self

BoM (seen this used a lot though) - The Bands of Mourning

TWoK (or just WoK) - The Way of Kings

WoR - Words of Radiance

E - Elantris (?)

TES - The Emperor's Soul

Thanks @cloudjumper! TWK, WoB, RAFO, and PAFO are a few that I find confusing

Ecthelion already covered all of the abbreviations that you mentioned except for PAFO. PAFO means play and find out. This is used in Sanderson Elimination Games when people ask questions that the GM (Game Master) doesn't want to answer. The GM just says PAFO, which implies that the question will be answered later in the game. This also is a reference to RAFO, which is read and find out. This term originates when Brandon Sanderson started answering questions that would be answered in later books with RAFO and giving them a card.

I have never heard of TWK before.

Oops, I didn't see your post @Ecthelion III - Thanks for the explanation. Also, TWK was supposed to be TWG (which I'm assuming is the old forum? but I'm not too sure about that) and thanks to @cloudjumper for throwing me into the game section (and clarifying some other abbreviations)

PAFO, as far as I know, as actually more widely recognized as Peter And Find Out - a play on RAFO (Read And Find Out), but it requires Peter's input, likely due to technical details Brandon doesn't remember well enough on the spot.

Maybe it's just about different contexts.

Welcome to the forums, @Iovis! I have some helpful advice for you: don't take the cookies. Rubix already owns your immortal soul; you don't want to lose it again.

Thank you, @WayneSpren! You are, unfortunately, a little too late for that advice. However, they were really good; are you sure you don't want some?

Actually the term RAFO originated with Robert Jordan and Sanderson adopted it after taking over the Wheel of Time.

The only other abbreviation I can think of is WoP, Word of Peter, similar to a word of Brandon.
