Quiver he/him Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 So, I know Brandon apparently plays Magic:The Gathering, and there is a thread on the subject in this very forum. But...anyone got any ideas on how to turn the Cosmere into it's own card game? I mean, we have an official mistborn RPG, and I'd be surprised if Stormlight Archive didn't get one of it's own eventually... So what about card games? Anyone got any ideas on how to make one of those?
Zathoth Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 I have been thinking about this a little and while I dont have anything concrete yet, I guess I can at least share the ideas I do have. So you obviously need a pool of investiture, a mana system of some kind. To draw from this you would need the correct focuses. Allomancers need Metal, Sel would be weird, Radiants need Stormlight and so on. Maybe these are cards on their own, but instead of putting lands in the mana pool you put them on the correct character. So you can summon Vin The Ascended One on round one, but without the right focus she wont be able to do anything. I think we need to know more about Realmatics to make proper rules for this, but these are my two cents. 3
The Great Poomba Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Hello, I am new, I literally signed up just to respond to your two responses. Have you had any more thoughts about this trading card game. I feel like there would be more then enough material to start one, and have a continuous amount of expansions, especially since Sanderson is planning on writing many more.
MistbornAlpaca he/him Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 (edited) Hey, everyone! I've been thinking about this for a while, and have a pretty solid set of rules so far. I'll write them up later today in a Google Sheet and post the link here for you guys. The basic idea though is that there are 3 realms, Physical, Cognitive, and Spiritual. The main way to win is to have control of 2 of the 3 realms. I have a few ideas on how this would work, but I'll put that on the google doc later. Now on how resources work. So, you have 2 decks, the main deck (Characters, etc.) and the resource deck. The resource deck is full of whatever kind of resource your deck uses (breaths, stormlight, metals, etc.) There are 2 types of resources, streams, and stores. Streams are continuous cards, that you play from your hand and they tap each turn like a Magic the Gathering land. Stores are cards like metals, that you discard after use. I'll put the google doc link up later, let me know what you think? (Just a quick note. Many of these ideas came from another thread I created, and these rules are a collaborative effort, between me, Lord Maelstrom, and Trellium. There are a number of things about their various systems that didn't sit quite right with me, so I've taken some of them to add to my own system) Edited October 21, 2017 by MasterJack 1
MistbornAlpaca he/him Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 (edited) Okay, I just put the rules on a Google Sheet. (Edit: I just made it commentable, please comment and tell me what you think.) The way I've imagined this as an expandable trading card game, but it could also be adapted to a stand-alone card game with expansions. I've also included the link to Trellium's rules, which you should also check out and comment on. Hopefully, you guys can understand these rules, and you like them. Please comment and let me know what you think! I would love to work together with everyone on this, especially after the main rules are hashed out. Also, please note that I did have to sacrifice some Cosmere consistency to achieve fun gameplay, but tell me if you see a better solution.
