Arcoss Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Looking at all of the books that have been released so far, future known books and their order of release, It to jme seems the Cosmere cycle is structured similar to the MCU Something along those lines: Phase 1: -Elantris -Mistborn first series -Warbreaker Phase 2: -Mistborn second series -Stormlight arc 1 -Elantris sequels Phase 3: -Mistborn third series -Stormlight arc 2 -Nightblood? Phase 4: -Mistborn fourth series -Dragonsteel 4
Charlie.x.3000 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Pretty sure Dragonsteel is much earlier than Elantris. So Phase 0?
Master_Moridin he/him Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Pretty sure Dragonsteel is much earlier than Elantris. So Phase 0? Aren't they just listing a hypothetical release schedule?
Yata he/him Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I think Arcoss wanted to say about Cosmere's In-world Timeline not the release schedule
Arcoss Posted May 1, 2016 Author Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) I think Arcoss wanted to say about Cosmere's In-world Timeline not the release schedule No, I was talking about the release schedule Edited May 1, 2016 by Arcoss
Yata he/him Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 No, I was talking about the release schedule My bad, sorry I misunderstood
Argel he/him Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I think Brandon is a bit more fluid on the release schedule. We've alrady seen him throw in more short stories, the Mistborn Era2 trilogy (note that book 3 of that trilofy has bnot been release -- a lot of people seem to think AoL is part of the trilogy). which was not planned, push SA3 out a year, etc. The release schedule is more than anythign I think tied to what he wants to reveal, which means e.g. SA1-5 have to be released before IIRC the Elantris sequel and Mistborn Era2 book 4 can be released. And obviously Dragonsteel has to come very late given all the spoilers it will have. There are also Brandon's non-cosmere books. You need to include those in any release schedule since they can affect when Cosmere books are released. Heck, The Wheel of Time significantly delayed the SA books (though also significantly improved his fan base).
Blackhoof Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I think Marvel phases are more about the "style" of movie as opposed to chronological groupings, perhaps. My take: Phase 1: Origins -Elantris -Mistborn first series -Warbreaker -Stormlight 1 Phase 2: Connections -Stormlight 2 (and rest of arc 1?) -Mistborn second series -Elantris sequels Phase 3: Fusion -Mistborn third series -Stormlight arc 2 -etc etc So phase 1 are the barely connected origin stories, phase 2 has some minor interconnections of a more serious manner, and things start becoming more meta and cosmere-aware, and phase 3 is where "things get serious" in terms of connectedness, although we don't know how connected things will end up being from the character's perspectives 1
CaptainRyan he/him Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 The release schedule is more than anythign I think tied to what he wants to reveal, which means e.g. SA1-5 have to be released before IIRC the Elantris sequel and Mistborn Era2 book 4 can be released. Just a small correction Argel but we will get "the Lost Metal" (Mistborn Era 2 book 4 - the last Wax & Wayne novel) before the end of SA1-5. While I believe the most recent thing I read is that SA:3 is out in 2017 and "the Lost Metal" is out in 2018 I could not find substantiation for that - I did, however, find this. Peter, in December of 2014, was estimating a 2017 but I think that has been bumped back one year so Brandon can finish SA:3. The most recent State of the Sanderson also mentions "the Lost Metal" as coming out "soonish" but does not provide a date.
Argel he/him Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Ah, I thought he delayed it for a reveal in SA, but maybe it was just because he wanted to write something else?
