Pathfinder Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) But he didn't!!! He could have just said give up the city or else i will kill this random child billy bob!!! This shows that Straff didnt think his son would give up the city. But that was my point......since Staff didn't blackmail Elend with his child, then said child never existed. Staff is the type in my opinion to use that against Elend, and Elend while he was king (before he became emperor), was the type of person that could be pressured by that, which is why Staff, had he had Elend's son, would have used the child. This was a mental exercise I thought. It was pretty clearly shown in the novel, as well as WoB that Elend never had a child. So extending the mental exercise to the personalities of the characters, that is how I feel they would have acted. Straff would have used any means to manipulate his son, and Elend would have used any means to preserve life. Honestly King Elend I think would have made a very good knights radiant. edit: also why bother with Elend's offspring if it was only due to the possibility of the child being a misting/mistborn? He already has ton of his own offspring. It would be going through a lot of trouble just to get one more. If that was the case, why not use Zane like a prize stud? We know being mistborn does not mean you have mistborn children, but does Straff know that? By having Zane bed women too, he would be effectively potentially doubling his army of misting children and he doesn't need Elend at all. Edited February 12, 2016 by Pathfinder
Numuhuku he/him Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 (edited) Elend almost certainly had uncles and male cousins. After the final Ascension, at least one of them could have survived and taken claim to being head of the house. Edited February 13, 2016 by Numuhuku
natc Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I mean, House Venture wouldn't be much of a noble house with only two people, right?

nervousnerd he/him Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I really don't see Elend having an unknown child. Also, if there were a kid of his it would be a well known fact (What with Douglas taking the name Venture}. Zane on the other hand could have had a kid because he was with Amaranta (Not sure for how long) and possibly others. Also unlikely though because Straff would probably have noticed Amaranta having a baby.
