... but what if I store all of my luck in my Chromium and then lose my metalmind because I'm unlucky? I think Harmony should implement an insurance for Chromium Ferrings. Anything else would be unfair.

Losing your metalmind is still end-neutral. The power is there to be tapped, and unless you stored Aluminium at the same time, it's still keyed to you. You just stored too much too quickly ;)

Failsafes man. Start with two metalminds, storing about half luck for a short amount of time in one, then stop. I'm assuming luck acts like heat or mass and goes back to normal when you're not storing or tapping. Then you just repeat on the second metalmind. So even if one somehow slips off your body, you can just tap the others luck to get the first metalmind back. And who says you should stop with just 2! Obviously, if you can't store luck like mass, then the whole preventative steps thing is worthless.

I thought the topic would be about overtapping. Like, tapping at an accelerated rate, not +0.5 but like +20. We know that to become two times stronger by tapping pewtermind more power is spent up than a simple +1. Some power is expended in process of compressing the power, so to speak.

I wonder why is that. Where the power goes? How is Feruchemy end-neutral if power is lost?

No power is lost. I store 2 minutes of my luck, so I am 50% less lucky for 2 minutes. Then, I can become 50% more lucky for two minutes, or 100% more lucky for 1 minute and so forth. It is compressing the power over a shorter time span.

Actually it doesn't work that way. You become 100% more lucky for something like 50 seconds.

I think Sazed will explain it better than me:

However, Feruchemy gives decreasing returns—it takes more than the proportionate amount of strength, for instance, to make yourself four times as strong as a regular man, as opposed to simply twice as strong.

Tapping isn't proportional. There is a WoB out there about it, but I can't find it now.

I had a thought:

Storing: you Ruin yourself and Preserve the power

Tapping: you Preserve yourself and Ruin the power

In that way it's still power of balance... sort of...

I think overtapping is a bit like the reason you can't just have a giant ant running around with the proportional strength of an ant- because its strength is relative to the area of its muscles but the required strength for it to move around is relative to its total mass.

Likewise scaling up how fast you're tapping is like trying to add all the extra muscle you need to that giant ant, and you end up using a lot more of your metalmind's charge to do it.

It is because some of the power is used to "compress" itself, iirc. Not sure exactly how it works though.

Probably the Ari's interpretation is the right one.

You "lose" power only when you overtapping the Metalmind over a certain treeshold.

Maybe it's because Feruchemy is of Ruin and Preservation, and Preservation gave up some power to Invest humans on Scadrial, upsetting the balance?

On the other hand, all humans have more Preservation than Ruin in them; so Feruchemists have more of Preservation than Ruin in them, so it shouldn't work that way.

We don't know how the Terris people obtain the Feruchemy, maybe they have "extra Ruin" and this "unlocked the Feruchemy for them.

Anyway I suppose that you have to meet the "Feruchemy's requirements" (like "be a good connection to Preservation" is a requirement for the Allomancy) but over the requirements you still has the ability. For example Rashek became a Sliver of Preservation and his Feruchemy didn't change at all (time ago I put myself on a Feruchemy's origin theory).
