The Ja he/him Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Did anyone else wonder how far the medallions that the South scradialians(?) could go in effecting other magic systems? The translating metalminds interested me the most. Allik specifically mentioned that the translating medallions cause a person's connection to change to the physical place they are, I could only think of Sel's different magics. Is it possible that anyone could become an Elantrian by visiting Arelon and wearing one of the medallions until the Shaod changes them? Could anyone learn any of the geographically based magics on Sel? I could be missing something big realmatically here, so please discuss.
VoltCruelerz he/him Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) I suspect that it's probably possible to do as you say, for a Scadrialite, for instance, to use a medallion, go to Sel, get picked by the Shaod, and then learn AonDor. That said, you'd probably have to be sucking down a lot of Connection if you actually wanted any reasonable chance of success. In the end, I suppose it could work though. I'm not sure what good it would do you though since you'd then effectively be stuck in Arelon if you wanted to actually keep using your magic. Edited January 31, 2016 by VoltCruelerz
Irkutsk he/him Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I think it's interesting that F.Nicrosil stores Investure, not just specifically metallic arts. I believe it's possible that an elantrian spiked with F.Nicrosil and F.Aluminum could store their elantrian abilities in an unkeyed metalmind medallion for anyone to use. Similarly, a surgebinder or maybe even Nalthian returned could do the same. 1
Moogle Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Have you read the 10th Anniversary edition of Elantris? Hoid specifically thinks he can become an Elantrian, and tells the Skaze as much. I personally thought that his trick was attempting to to tap Connection to make his soul think he was from Arelon, and that this would let him become an Elantrian. 4
nikomis he/him Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Have you read the 10th Anniversary edition of Elantris? I've been meaning to pick up a new copy and kept forgetting. Thank you for giving me a specific reason to do so.
Stormgate he/him Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 When my friend had not read BoM and I had, I had a revelation that using Connection Feruchemy is how Hoid can speak Alethi, Scadrian, etc. 1
